Guest guest
Ken, Those spine tumors are really scary. Our daughter Anne has a Lumbar 2-3 right now which is at least 4.8 cm (another MRI is due). she has lost some function in her left leg. The out come of the surgery could be really bad so she is not wanting to do it nor is the NS. Are you having any symptoms? Hers is in the cord. Is yours? Lots of variables determine surgery. Where are you located. ly, I don't recall your name on the Crew. Good luck to you. Vicki
Guest guest
Hi Vicki, You probably haven't seen me because I tend to " lurk " until I have a question. I am part of about 10 discussion groups/lists so I vary how much time I spend with each, grin. I don't know enough yet about the tumors. I only know I have them..a rough location..and am waiting to talk with my NS. It seems they are NEAR the cord, and about 2 cm in size. I am checking on FRS oppossed to surgery. I don't want surgery if I can avoid it (have had enough surgeries on tumors in other easily accessible locations). Thanks...keep in touch. Ken Re: questions Ken, Those spine tumors are really scary. Guest guest
Hi, Sorry, this was meant to be a direct reply. This is strange, yesterday when I clicked reply, it went directly to the person who sent it, not the group. Has someone changed the settings? Thanks, Ken Arcia

Guest guest
Mike, Perhaps the knife wont hurt but they use drills and God knows what else. I've seen some of the stuff they use from my wife's operation room course. They may get this stuff at the Home Depot. Re: questions > > > > > > Ken, > > Those spine tumors are really scary. Guest guest
Funny but when I was at UPMC for GK a nurse was removing that head attachment with a drill. I asked her if I could see the drill. Sure enough, it was a Sears Craftsman. She said they only used the drill to remove the attachment quicker and the doctor puts it in by hand. This was true. Lunsford et al did put in on by hand. I guess they used the Sear Craftsman hand models. Re: questions > > > > > > > > > > > > Ken, > > > > Those spine tumors are really scary. Guest guest
, 1. I see many people are told to lose weight prior to surgery. Why? It differs from one surgeon and patient to the next. My surgeon does not require his patients to lose weight prior. Some of the surgeons require it because they believe it will shrink the liver and make it easier for them to maneuver. 2. Do the different types (band, etc.) generally have the same results? I believe the Lap band requires periodic adjustments. The end result I suppose is the same; lose weight. But, I've heard that the bypass is more successful for long term weight loss. Whether that is based on facts or personal opinion I have no idea. 3. Generally, how much time is needed off work (desk job)? I had Laparscopic Roux En Y and was ready to return to work after 2 weeks, but the night before my return I got pancreatitis and was rehospitalized for 2 weeks. All-in-all I was out of work for 6 weeks. How quickly one returns to work depends on whether or not they had complications and how quickly they heal and bounce back. in Virginia 299/224/150 Lap RNY: 5/3/06 Questions Hi- I am just in the early stages of deciding if the surgery is right for me (I have initial dr appt next week). I have been browsing this board and have come up with some questions: 1. I see many people are told to lose weight prior to surgery. Why? 2. Do the different types (band, etc.) generally have the same results? 3. Generally, how much time is needed off work (desk job)? Those are the ones that come to mind right now.....I am sure I will have more later... Thanks,
