So does that mean you have a surgery date now? I hate that you won't be

coming but your surgery and medical care is far more important. Next

year, next trip, it will happen. But for now, getting you the treatment

you need is the only priority.

Well, I wish it had been long ago, but at least now its fairly close.

It's a better date than you'd figured you'd get.

Irene..."cut" as in remove? My son just went through the same surgery....still in the hospital. Dr. cut out 12 inches! They say now Chrons (sp?) disease.

Tough surgery but mandatory.

I'll be praying for you.

Sher, yes cut as in remove. It's a tough surgery as you said it's mandatory to relieve the pain and obstruction. I Hope your son is doing

Well and a Speedy recovery.

Irene....he's had a really hard time. Unfortunately, his is made worse by AIDS infection. All the tubes are out now and he is 'functioning' properly but having trouble w/food and pain. Can't go home until this is better.

Thanks Kerry!

Work is keeping me so busy at the moment. Days will go by so fast. The preparation will be awful, I have to clean out the bowels

(the same prep as if you were going in for a colonoscopy) yuck!

Irene... this is a bit indelicate but I've had so many colonoscopies I've learned something I'll pass along to you...those preps are worse than the surgery!!

Apply copious amounts of Vaseline to, ahem, the strategic "exact spot" and around, before the first 'reaction' has time to work and each time thereafter! It really really helps to keep the bummer from turning into a fire-pit! The last two I had, I did this and the prep was soooooo much easier to go through!

My son, Chip, went home today. Has a pic line in for antibiotics and on strong pain meds but he's home. About 3 years he had a tough infection go-round and had his spleen removed. WE thought he was really not going to pull through that one. I was writing a book at the time and everything went on STOP. Dr. says he will have reoccurrences of infections just as bad as the last two.

I know you will feel so much better. I'm relieved the time is here for surgery!

If you told Irene to drink that much of any liquid she'd be in agony.

It's not just the impact of the stuff. It's that she doesn't like

liquids. So if it was water or diet coke or juice she'd still hate it

with a vengeance. Now add to that the effect its designed to have.

Bruce...I get it. I'm not a liquid liker either. Seldom drink much of anything until I'm really thirsty. Not good for us.

I drank two small bottles of "gag" and I put it in orange juice, that helped.

I can remember when one drank a gal or so. Unbelievable amts! Glad that changed.

You both need liquids....oh what a losing battle I'm fighting there.

I drink loads of liquids. Typical daily intake is 1 to 2 Diet Cokes (Fountain) and 3 to 4 bottles of water (16.9 oz size), so I get 8 to 12 cups of liquid per day. I've always heard you need 8 cups glasses/cups (8 oz each) of liquid per day. However, I just read an article that says there is no evidence nor research saying how much liquid you need or its benefit and this finding will appear in the June issue of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.

So is it a requirement or a myth. Amazing how even the things we thought we knew suddenly get questioned. Well, I'll keep drinking and you two can keep not drinking and we'll all be happy. lol> > > >> > > > Hi my friends,> > > >> > > > I will not be coming to San and I was really looking> > forward> > > to meeting you all! Bruce...I definitely know I should drink more....gee, a gin/tonic would be good! hahaha. I try and drink more water but don't. Yes, I heard on the news that the 8 glasses of water is proving out not to be necessary. I do think water is good to drink however...keeps the system working but who knows...other drinks may work as well....juice or whatever.

Sher/Irene

Irene,I'm glad to hear you finally got the surgery scheduled. Hopefully the days will go quickly and the surgery will go a long way toward making you feel better.Kerry37 IPF 01 S.
