Guest guest
He desparately needs to check his oxygen on exertion. I'm sitting right now at 95%. But if I walked 20 feet I would be at 88% or less. If I picked up something moderately heavy, bending over to do so and then walked outside to put it in my car, again bending to put it in my trunk, I'd be in the 70's. Has he had Pulmonary Function Tests? I am very concerned about the quality of medical care he's receiving. I can't imagine anyone who is diagnosed as having PF not being checked for oxygen saturation under exertion. There are too many open questions you need answered. What dosage and how long is the prednisone prescribed for? If over 6 days, was he told about all the potential side effects? I don't know who or where his pulmonologist is but those at a teaching hospital are generally better and the 13 Centers for Excellence best. But, wherever, you should be able to find one to address the current issues. See, I'm disturbed that oxygen saturation is being dismissed based on a sitting reading. I also think someone needs to figure out what is causing the joint pain. Has he been on prednisone before? > > > > > > > > Hello camper...there are so many variables to your question. Guest guest
Dear Camper, Last year I had excrutiating pain in my knees and elbows. I didn't feel sick other than the horrible pain. I tried Bayer Back and Body Pain reliever, and deep heat on my joints and while it helped some I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling like I needed to scream from the pain. When I finally went to the doctors , he took an xray and it turned out I had double pneumonia. He felt the joint pain was unrelated but since the pneumonia cleared up I have never had the pain again. Sarcoid/PF 3/2006 California Question about joint pain My husband has IPF and he gets this terrible terrible joint pain in his hands, feet, knees, elbows and shoulders. Has anyone else experienced this and if so could you let me know what works to help calm the pain. You rock. That's why Blockbuster's offering you one month of Blockbuster Total Access, No Cost. Guest guest
I have the joint pain as well as pain in my calves. I have heard that the calf pain was from oxygen deprivation but I'm at a good level on my O2 so I don't think that's it. Is he on steroids? Some of us have that complication from Prednisone. Guest guest
There are so many reasons for joint pain and it does need to be followed up and may have nothing to do with PF. On the other hand for someone with PF not to have their oxygen checked under exertion is also something that definitely needs to be rectified. So, those may well be two entirely separate matters, but could possibly be connected. Both are important. > > > > > > > > > > Hello camper...there are so many variables to your question. Guest guest
Hello Bruce, He has been checked while being on the treadmill and while exercising on the weight mahcine and that has been good. As far as I can remember he was at 90 then. He was on prednisone last year for two different rounds, but I don't remember the dosage right now that info is at home. He is on some now and it is 5 mil-grams per pill. He is taking 8 for two days and then 7 for two days and so on until gone. He has had all the pulmonary tests done and the lung biopsy done. the pain is hardly there at all right now so the pills are working. We are aware of the side affects but so far he has been ok. He gets a Cat-Scan every 90 days...one here in Appleton and then see the Lung Sepcialist and then down to Madison to see Dr. Meyer who specialises in this disease here in Wisconsin. > > > > > > > > > > Hello camper...there are so many variables to your question.
