I also got some good info from Sidran when I was going through this. One thing I learned was that as long as I was in an abusive living situation, I could not get past the flashbacks and pain. Once I was out of the abusive situation, I made definite progress. Marti, don't give up hope. I understand about the flashbacks, which is probably what you're describing, reliving with the same emotions as you had then. That was true for me. It finally, after much work and time, got better. Having it externally validated also helped a lot, although that isn't available to some people. The main thing is that the experience can no longer hurt you, and once that finally sank in for me, the symptoms began to diminish.
