OFF topic... My child now in special ed. --mention of autisim

Ok, My little boy who is 5 has been tested by the school system. I appreciate

everything they are doing. I just will have to do some research on exactly what

KINDS of autism exists. He does not fit the traditional profile as portrayed in

the movie " Rain Man " .

IF THERE IS ANYONE HERE WITH knowledge or education on special ed, please kind

of help me understand. He DOES interact. He DOES show emotion. He does not

understand instructions for much of anything and is behind in language and

communication skills.

They say he " falls under the umbrella of Autism " . I am not disputing it,

merely trying to understand.

They also say he should be eligible for SSI and Medicaid. I need to apply for

it. Not sure how much documentation I will need.
