Guest guest
I went through this for a year and was not successful with my insurance. Things to do: Join a gym or exercise class or water aerobics and get in as good shape as you possibly can. Keep researching and staying in contact with others on this list. Volunteer at some civic organization that benefits the underprivileged or elderly. Try to find others nearby who are frustrated also and form a support group. Get a new wardrobe organized: a few things in each smaller size that you will eventually need (become a garage sale regular, thrift shop browser, sew your own, go to half-of-a-half-of-a-half sales, outlet stores, etc.) Start all the healthy habits you can: No caffeine, avoid sugars and fats, learn to cook healthy dishes, (experiment with new kinds of cooking--find the American Diabetic assn. and get some cookbooks from them), Keep a daily journal with an eye toward writing a book someday. Make new curtains, or chair covers, or pillows, redecorate a room in your house doing lots and lots of window shopping and browsing beforehand, take a fun class at the local college that you have always wanted to take: painting, stained-class, etc. Read lots of books. Go to movies with friends. Go on one-day out-of-town trips with your friends and do fun things (I went digging for diamonds in Arkansas with a friend--lots of work and POTENTIAL excitement.) Get a taibo (sp?) tape and take out your frustrations doing those exercises, or puch pillows or stomp on them or whatever makes you feel better. I have even gotten to the point of cleaning and organizing my closets! LOL. Good Luck!! Pat Eppler Tyler, TX MGB 4-3 self-pay Group counseling definitely needed From: CuteAKA2nv@... All right guys and gals, This is my situation. In the four months of patiently waiting for new insurance to kick in, I read, researched, made phone calls, etc., in effort to prepare for this surgery. Now, I find that I may be subject to a waiting period. It could be short or as long as November 2000 before I am even presented to medical review. Now I am becoming anxious, irritable, and melancholy. Today I felt as if I may need an antidepressant just to get through the waiting period. I know others who have fought longer and harder and maybe even deserved the surgery more than I do. WHAT DID YOU ALL DO TO KEEP SANITY DURING THE WAIT? It seems that once I made up my mind to do this I want it immediately and waiting may KILL me in the meantime. SOMEBODY HELP ME PLEASE! Guest guest
Why would you need an h-pylori test if I might ask? Thanks, Ann
Guest guest
It took me from August to January to get approval from HMO and was involved in a grievance procedure- (letter writing). Provided research, refused all other suggestions from them such as Xenical, and reasons why. Finally sent in pictures of myself along with a complete history of medical, family history and letters from doctors/dentists and people who have known my struggle. Finally approved. Went through the psychological exam OK and then flunked the H-pylori test. For those of you waiting, have the H-pylori bacteria test done before you get approved so you can have it cleared up and retested. I have to wait now another 28 days before retest so that has put my surgery out to April, that is if the bacteria is gone. Good luck. Guest guest
The RNY surgery requires that you don't have the bacteria H-pylori that causes ulcers. When they close off the old stomach, it can eventually cause an ulcer and they don't want that to happen. According to the surgeon 20% of the population has it and don't even now it. I was one of those unlucky people. But if your surgeon requires it, do it long before so you don't get disappointed and have to wait. Its 10 - 14 days of medicines and then a 28 incubation period before than can do a C-14 carbon test, or stomach biopsy. For those of you having the mini, you may not need to worry about this. Guest guest
le, Something that has always helped me when I get anxiuos about having something done or going somewhere or just waiting for Christmas (yes I am worse than any child!), I always remember a verse from the Bible that helps me a lot. " Be still and know that I am God. " I don't remember which part of the Bible it is from, but it reminds me that God will take care of everthing for me if I give it over to Him. I hope this helps, even if it is just a little. (MGB Approved) Group counseling definitely needed > From: CuteAKA2nv@... > > All right guys and gals, > > This is my situation. Guest guest
le, Well I waited a year and in that time I was anxious , irritable and melancholy! I was lucky I was already on an antideppressant. If you feel you need one then get one do not feel that it shameful or anything! My hubby was ready to turn me in on a new wife when I finally went on an antideppressant. WOW! I could not believe the difference. It was like night and day.Besides I think Dr R would agree that obesity can cause a bit of depression in and of itself. My hubby HAS said I am different since my approval came but in the preceding 11 mo I was on a more even keel than if I had not been on an antideppressant. I hope this helps Paige >From: CuteAKA2nv@... >Reply-To: MiniGastricBypassonelist >To: MiniGastricBypassonelist >Subject: Group counseling definitely needed >Date: Tue, 14 Mar 2000 16:22:15 EST > >All right guys and gals, > >This is my situation. Guest guest
Hey, I didn't say I did all of them. However, I did think about them! LOL I have done many of them however, especially the window shopping and decorating. Waiting is hard. But it does pass. (I think--two and-a-half weeks to go!) Pat Eppler Re: Group counseling definitely needed Hmmm... Couldn't you find anything to do??
