Just for an FYI, Vicki, I do this too.

The nerve that you are told about is the vagus nerve.

It comes out of the bottom of your head, through the site of the jugular

foramen (fossa).

You know, near and around the site of the ACM, that is the area called

the hind brain (posterior fossa).

The left and right vagus nerve controls different parts of the body.

It is a parasympathetic nerve. (controlling things you don't have to

think about)

The " vaso " part of the vosovagal term you use here is the site where the

vascular part of your

body is controlled by this nerve. In a sense the " shock " (or fainting

mechanism) system.

To make it understandable you could probably call this nerve one of the

" main men " of the nerves that come out of your head. And its main branch

that begins it all,

starts coming out right where your brain is compressed, that is if you

have ACM and it is causing a great deal of compression in the hind brain.

Pretty much, this nerve runs through your whole body, even down to your

rectum.

Some of the main parts it affects are the: heart, stomach, esophagus (not

swallowing, but below that, the hypoglossal nerve mainly controls that

function) and intestines, colon, kidneys, spleen, liver, lungs, diaphragm

(along with the phrenic nerve outside the head), larynx (talkbox). The

point is, it is a very important nerve that is necessary for many of the

systems of your body to talk to each other. Like with the heart rate,

breathing, pulse rate, and even when you'll have a bm. Sorry :-)

hmmmm.

If you want to learn more about this look up sites that tell you about

the parasympathetic and sympathetic portions of the nervous system. The

autonomic nervous system. Or just put in vosovagal neurosyncope and you

could do a word search and find out a lot about this. It is very

interesting.

I am sorry you are being challenged with this. Try to remain calm if you

can when you have a spell. Just sit down for a minute.

in Ala.
