Guest guest
When I turned the calendar this month I was amazed to see a painting of my Mom as a young girl! It's a Norman Rockwell Painting from 1930 entitled April Showers. Of course, it's not my Mom. She was born in 1927 so was only 3 when this came out on the cover of the Washington Post. But it looks so eerily like her as a young girl that I'm going to frame it and hang it in my office. My Mom was also an artist, so this is so reminiscent of her that it takes my breath away. This is the month that she passed away, 14 years ago. Isn't it wild how life has a way of reminding us of our loved ones that we've lost? On my 46th birthday, I opened up a box of costume jewelry to sort, and the first thing I pulled out was an Avon cross from the 1970's....identical to the one my Mom had given me on my 12th birthday. I have a picture of myself in 8th grade wearing that necklace for school pictures. The original cross burned up in our house fire 18 years ago. I instantly knew that my Mom was telling me Happy Birthday, and doing it in a way that would make me know for certain that she was thinking of me. The cross she gave me at age 46 hangs over my bed. I miss my Mom so very much, but I know that she is watching over me and giving me signs to let me know that she is waiting and still loves me. Isn't life grand????? Hugs! Guest guest
Babs, Thoughts and prayers are with you this month on your mom's anniversary of her death. I SOOOO believe in what you're talking about - mom was wishing you a happy birthday. Thank you so much for sharing your story. My mom's anniversary was April 3 - she died in 1999 and my grandmother's (her mom) was April 4 she died in 2002. My mother-in- law's anniversary is April 9 and she died in 2007. This year so many weird things happened on April 3 and 4. I remember driving in to work on April 3 and thinking " something is going to happen today " The thought just popped in there. Not something good or bad. Just something. Then when I get into work I hear from Gwynne's assistant telling me that Gwynne was being transplanted as we spoke and of course, she got it on her birthday. I just felt like mom was giving me a head's up. It certainly is comforting. Glad to see you posting. Hope this means that you are feeling better. Guest guest
Babs, My mom died March 15, 2006. I miss her so terribly, but like you "feel" her around me so often. I know you like poems too and one of my favorites is Theodore Roethke's The Waking, which starts-"I wake to sleep and take my waking slow." The line that grips my heart each time is: "what falls away is always and is near." It is a like a lullabye to me. So comforting whenever anniversaries or birthdates come up. She is always and is near, her voice and breathe and touch in so many lovely things around me. I am so glad you found the painting. . .life really is wonderful so much of the time. Guest guest
It is serendipity. Absolute perfect serendipity that you found that cross when you did. I will add your cross moment to the secret place of things I keep in my heart. Blessings, blessings.
