Guest guest
, That may have been me...it's not that the exercises are different, they weren't in the rehab that I went to. It's more a matter of making sure the educational component applies to our type of lung disease and that the therapists who were working with me were aware that I have a different type of lung disease from pretty much everyone else in the class. PF is a restrictive lung disease, Emphysema, COPD etc are obstructive lung disease and they are very different. COPD patients don't have trouble getting oxygen in, they have trouble getting carbon dioxide out. COPD patients typically don't use much supplementary O2, it often makes them worse, not better. The biggest difference is that obstructive lung diseases are at least somewhat treatable, where ours for the most part are not. There is typically more information for emphysema, asthma, and copd patients in the average pulmonary rehab program but the exercise, the camraderie and the practical tips for living with lung disease are invaluable!!
