Guest guest
i know, and that is the chief weakness of conventional medicine--fix one leak, start another somewhere else. sometimes i get the feeling we're all just putting duct tape over the symptoms of our diseases. not just ms, but also bipolar sufferers, who take lithium which eventually erodes their thyroids. i knew nothing about my thyroid until i had a thyroid disease. now i'm consistently surprised at not just how many things the thyroid controls and affects, but also how many external factors can affect and control the thyroid. somedays it seems like a minefield. baron > > yes, baron, that is correct. Guest guest
cindi, i understand what you mean. there are those who are ill and desperately want to get better and are pro-active about it. then there are those who are ill and accept defeat or lose their hope. it's dismaying and sad when it's someone you care about. probably worse are the friends i've had who've been ill, became well read about their illnesses and symptoms, but never possessed the self-respect and the self-love or simple motivation to actually follow through with any action to improve their lives. i had a friend who suffered from lupus, ibs (she has the runs several times a day, so there was also a concern for crohn's), fatigue, etc.. and has health insurance (ppo). she was always saying she'd be making an appointment with the dr " next week " . it's not like she was busy. she worked from home as a web programmer, had very flexible hours and an easy boss. her money, she felt, was better spent on drinks, cds, dvds, instead of the copay and the meds. her diet was atrocious: macaroni and cheese, pizza, etc.. a vegetarian diet, but one heavy with the pastas, cheeses and breads. i decided i couldn't care about someone more than they cared about themselves. so i stopped bothering. it's no fun for you and it's no fun for them. eventually, all that nagging would have translated into me butting into someone else's business. i know what it's like to have lost my health--i desperately want it back. but some people it seems, are able to find contentment subsisting at various levels of existence. she's 25. i don't get it. baron i've told a good friend who has fibro all this stuff...and for her to please > ask her doctor to get tested...but has it done any good? no. it's so > hard to > save the world sometimes. sigh. > cindi > > >
Guest guest
Boy, Cherie, can I RELATE! I want to cry when I think about how bad my brain is. I remember when it first really hit me in 1999 I was at work and I closed the door and just cried to myself. I said out loud " I have gotten so stupid " . I didn't know what was happening to me and suddenly everyone started to notice too and thought I was taking drugs or something (I WISH it were that easy). I used to be so sharp and my brain is down to about 20% of what it was. I did an IQ test a few years ago and dropped 40 points from where I had been in my 20s! I have to say I have a whole new empathy for people who just don't " get it " like I used to so easily as now I am one of those people, lol. Math was always my favorite subject in school and college. I didn't even show up for freshman Algebra other than to take the tests and that was the #1 class students failed at my university, lol. Yeah, I considered a math degree too then got off on a tangent. Chemistry was what really loved. It had both the math and the science parts. That is why health stuff interests me a lot from a cellular standpoint and the chemical reactions in our bodies. I had a job where a coworker would race me. She would read off a bunch of numbers for me to calculate in my head while she did it on her calculator and whoever finished first won. I won every time. I could NEVER do that now. I bet I couldn't even get the calculation at all. I also used to be a very good speller but now I am completely dependent on spell check and have a hard time remembering the most simple things. I seem to have no capacity to learn new things. This has been going on for at least a decade but started diminishing about 20 years ago. I just have such poor short and long term memory so when I do learn something, I forget what I learned, lol. Once I forgot an entire 5-year career I had. That is pretty bad brain functioning! I still find stuff I wrote or things from years ago and it looks like it came from someone else. I cannot relate at all. I wanted to go back to school and get another degree but there is no way I could now with my low functioning brain. Cheri -----Original Message----- Ahhh...I see....It seems so simple once you put it like that....I'm sure I could have figured that out in about 20 years or so on my own....I'm blaming it on the brain fog! What's really scary is I almost majored in math in college. I miss my brain! Cherie
Guest guest
Happy Saturday, Just something funny - my brain fog was so bad this last week that on Wednesday I woke up thinking it was Tuesday, and I got on myspace and started commenting all of my friends with a " Happy Mardi Gras " graphic. I was halfway done when I realized " derrr, Melody, it's Wednesday! Mardi Gras is over! " I felt embarrassed at first, then laughed about it. --
