Sounds to me like a good day. You asserted yourself and took your care

into your own hands.

Now, I'm so happy for you going to the counselor. As great as family and

friends are or as this forum is, nothing can do what a good counselor

can. And, it is a place where you can say anything, including talking

about dealing with family issues. Then, you can bring others in when

appropriate but the counseling is yours and what goes on there is very

private except when you want to share. The first session is always such

a strange experience. I've had friends I've even taken to their first so

they wouldn't chicken out. One actually threw up all morning but then

went and came out and her first words were the strangest ever as she

said " that was fun. "

They do help so much with coping skills. The need to get out on the

weekends is a perfect example. Why do you think I get out so much? My

counselor did it all. I would have otherwise locked myself in my

apartment a couple of years ago and never left it except for doctors or

groceries. But my personality wouldn't allow me to have to report to her

that I didn't do my homework so obsession in that regard worked in my

favor. Then, the habit was built. She also taught me so much about

dealing with others, including those who mean the most to me. This was

long before PF but still is of so much use. I never set boundaries

before or thought of me first or said " no. " Now, I do try as much as

possible to take care of my own health, both physical and mental. As to

your dementia concerns, my counselor explained a lot about how the brain

worked. Now, I did also have MRI of brain through neurologist. But, once

that was ok, she explained how depression impacts the left lobe of the

brain and does impact both memory and thinking skills. Anxiety does the

same. If nothing physical is found, you might be surprised as your loss

of mental and memory skills stops and you even regain some. Now, I can't

say in your case depression is the cause, just that it can be.

Again, congratulations on some very positive steps in managing your

life, your health, your living with your disease.

Wow! Sounds like you just started to climb a huge hurdle. Good for you. I think the best way to deal with all this, is to improve our ability to cope with whatever we have, and do one positive thing at a time. In a way we become our #1 pcp! Keep up the good work and I hope to talk to you soon. I enjoyed our last conversation! Still working with the HOA and should have some answer next week. At least they won't take the house, I just hope they take off the $1000 worth of fees they piled on to the $200 I owed. Again, I thank you for your concern. Take good care. NO I DIDN'T lay on the couch! I think I was keyed up and didn't allow her to say much. She said that most 'people person, type a personalities' who have had their mobility taken away tend to act this way in the beginning. Yes I did make another appointment. Vickie did not join me this first session because I needed to bring up some issues about her. Vickie however will be joining me for future sessions. So far the only recommendations the counselor had was for me to be more assertive about needing to get away from the house(prison) on weekends for my own mental health. Overall I think the session went well and was worth it just for me to talk to someone face to face. Not that I don't

Steve... I just got home from a little outing and see your email. I've been watching for your news on appts.

Sounds so far so good friend! Less meds are always positive and something for sleep is positive and a scan is positive!

And even a MH counselor! That's over the top positive. Now 4 positives are enough to bring some changes!

Good for you Steve. I think it's harder for some men to go to a counselor....something called "Macho".....is that in the mango family??

Yeah, the first few visits are clumsy to say the least and it's expected for you to have some privacy at first to bring up what's important to you....

You didn't say....did you get something for pain?

If I were there I'd give you a hug...this is good news.

Steve,I'm so happy that all went well today. It sounds like it was a hugely productive day. You must be exhausted? Congrats on seeing a counselor. That was one of the best things I ever did.

Congrats Steve!!

Hi Mama Sher. You're right I am a mango man. At least today I wish I lived where they grew. Are you having snow and record cold temps today and forecast for the weekend. It is a blizzard here. My shakiness and anxiety are still worsening today. Yes she kept me on oxycodone 10r plus oxycodone 5 for breakthru. Today nothing is working. I went up for a nap at 1pm and came down at 4:30. No sleep but it did feel good wrapped in a blanket. Here is a air hug back at you. In 60 days or so will be able to trade for real one. You have everyone wondering about what you are making.

Hi Steve.... Yes we're having winter weather here too. Forecast is cold, rainy, possible snow! Mid April. Heck sakes, this could on 'till June!

I wish the blanket wrapped around you would have lulled you to sleep but perhaps you will sleep some tonight. Try taking a warm blanket...out of the dryer up with you.

Well, I plan on STARTING to make something tomorrow....

I'm sending sleepy vibes your way. Have you ever tried Chamomile (sp) tea? That works for some. And Sweet Dreams tea is good for nite-time drink.

More tomorrow.
