Guest guest
The AKC Gazette, February 2008, has an artical about IPF and how it affects dogs. IPF is one of several diseases that veterinary researchers are exploring to see if a new and controversial medical technique -stem-cell therapy- is safe and effective. Vulliet, PhD, DVM believes that stem cells have enormous therapeutic potential in both animals and humans. He hopes that research in dogs may speed the progress of these therapies for humans. Parent clubs in many breeds are taking the comparative approach as scientists uncover the similarities in diseases among dogs and humans. Dr Vulliet believes that stem cells have potential to repair or replace the scarred lung tissue. It was never mentioned, or known about 20 years ago, but I now believe that one of my Brittanies died of IPF. Ann S.
