Guest guest
Hollye, I experienced severe foot pain for about a year and then it subsided. I honestly can't think of any one thing in particular that I did to make it go away. I even saw a podiatrist who said I needed surgery! I never did get it. I would get terrible cramping in addition to the " broken bone pain " that you describe and walking was very painful. I used to soak in warm water with epsom salts for temporary relief. The foot pain mysteriously diappeared even before I stated AP. I get occasional ankle swelling and minor cramping at night sometimes but nothing like before. I wish I had more words of wisdom to help you but I at least wanted you to know that I can empathize with your pain. I do hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
Thanks for the information -- I have been the podiatrist route 5 years ago-- I had the shots, did the bandaging, etc. -- that was shortly before they found the RA -- Yeah it would make my life much easier if I didn't have the constant achy, burning, broken feeling, pain in my feet! Guest guest
Hollye, You may have bone spurs, a cartilage injury, or some other injury. Try to get an MRI. If your present doctor is not willing to prescribe an MRI, get a second opinion. See a foot specialist called a podiatrist. The answer may be arthroscopic surgery, not drugs. See this website: http://www.epodiatry.com/foot-pain.htm For even more web pages, go to www.google.com and enter " foot pain " (in quotation marks) into the search field. Guest guest
Hi Hollye, I had the foot pain before I was dxed with RA and fibro. I remember the summer before the dx. I kept asking hubby to rub my feet and squeeze them (he hated this). I had my feet up in the evening on pillows. I also wlaked a lot and thought this was the cause. I never had the broken feeling that I remember just felt like walking on big round rocks and soreness. My first pains were in my wrists but swiftly went to the balls of my feet and toes. My right ankle swelled so badly a specialist insisted on injecting with cortisone. This was all before the antibiotics kicked in. Before I did the Clindamycin IV's I did injections of it in my butt and the first signs of it working was when I put my foot in a dress shoe for an important occassion and there was only mild discomfort. I also found that anti-inflams caused a lot of minor foot swelling which made walking feel like walking on round stones. We each have different minor and major symptoms of our disease. I hope that when the Minocin kicks in for you that these discomforts you feel will go away. Minocin works slowly and you usually get worse before getting better. So hang in there. You can read a lot of our stories on rheumatic.org/medhist.htm I hope this is still valid (haven't looked there for a while) hope and pray for you, cooky RA and fibro 9 yrs same time AP rheumatic Feet pain Hi all! Guest guest
Hollye, My daughter had alot of problems with her feet and was told to try cherries. It worked. It doesn't matter if they are fresh or frozen. It's worth a shot if it would make you feel better. jan Hollye Bowen <sunriselops@...> wrote: Thanks for the information -- I have been the podiatrist route 5 years ago-- I had the shots, did the bandaging, etc. -- that was shortly before they found the RA -- Yeah it would make my life much easier if I didn't have the constant achy, burning, broken feeling, pain in my feet! Guest guest
Hollye...........My feet are my worst joints for pain. I tried getting inserts for my shoes from a doctor, but they never really did right. I finally went to a shoe store that specialized in orthotics. The man who ran the store actually had a college degree in feet and making orthotics. He explained that once an insert is made, small adjustments over a few months are almost always necessary. For one price for his inserts, I can go back and have them adjusted any time I needed to. Since feet also change over time, this was the least expensive and best way. One time I had used my inserts for over a year and somesthing changed in my feet. he adjusted the metatarsul area for free and relieved my pain. Make sure you go to a shop where the man(or lady) who will make your inserts is actually there. Many shops send them " away " to be made and free adjustments are not avaliable. Talking and having face to face conversation with the person actually making and fitting your orthotics is critical in my mind. My orthotic man will actually refurbish an old pair of inserts when the get raggedy for a lower price. I have had nothing but happy feet since learning about how to get good orthotic inserts. Guest guest
Hi Martha, My husband is always getting new orthotics for his shoes, but has never had anyone who will adjust them. How do you find someone who has a degree in this field and will do this. What city do you live in and can you ask your orthotic maker if he has someone he can refer us to in NYC. Thanks Dolores Rosner MRSROSE2000@... wrote: Hollye...........My feet are my worst joints for pain. I tried getting inserts for my shoes from a doctor, but they never really did right. Guest guest
Dolores..... Look in shoe section in the yellow pages and look for the area where the ads specify custom orthotics. What you want to look for or call and ask is if the premise has a certified PEDORTHIST. Yes....the word is " PEDORTHIST " . It means they have gotten a degree in feet and custom shoe and insert making. I live in Nashville, Tennessee.....but most major cities should have several. Call around and you will certainly find one who meets your needs. Martha

Guest guest
So, what can I take for the pain? Guest guest
Time to talk to your doctor about getting some Vicodin. I have bart, and get this when I travel and do a lot of walking. I don't leave home without big handfuls of hydrocodone for my feet. And your LLMD needs to test you for bartonella, and treat that, too. Guest guest
a, Try daily alternating hot and ice cold foot baths. I have had bartonella for about 16 years and I have some numbness, but it has never progressed to the pain you describe. Several people in my lyme support group swear by an epsom salt bath and then alternating their feet between that warm bathwater and a tub of ice-water, ending with the ice water. The diabetic elastic socks also help. I have found that the heavy duty elastic hosiery is overkill, but the diabetic socks provide just enough support. Warning, they are expensive. Guest guest
Oooo, oooo, yesss, elastic socks. My favorites -- will not leave home for trips without them -- are the Smoothtoe midcalf Crew sock, available here: <http://www.smoothtoe.com/> Like Kathleen said: not cheap. But they're very durable -- three or four pair will last you a while -- and they provide just the right amount of compression in just the right places to keep your feet from dying. I'm also loving my new Sketchers Shape-Ups, which take some getting used to, but make walking a lot easier. They've got these big rounded pillowy soles that are *really* easy on the feet.
