Guest guest
Strange and wonderful thing about opiates: if you're in pain, they don't whack you. (Or, at least, they shouldn't.) They just make the pain go away so you can function. If you get sleepy, you've taken more than you need. You might try going ahead with your Aleve in the morning as a precaution, then pop a Vicodin the minute you actually notice the foot pain coming on. You should get 4-6 hours of pain-free work out of a dose. I start with a small dose, then wait an hour. If I'm still in pain, then I take a little more -- easing into it so I don't overdo and knock myself out. I have a weird reaction to Vicodin: if I take it before bed, it wires me, and I sleep all jangly (if at all). Fortunately, I have a doctor who will also prescribe Dilaudid (hydromorphone) for night use, or when the pain goes beyond the reach of mere Vicodin. Very sweet dreams on that one. Can also second the motion on the hot/ice footbath thing. When I was in high school, I worked in a diner. Used to come home with horribly sore feet. I remember one day when I came home in misery, my mom marched me into the bathroom, where the sink was full of ice. She commanded me to get up on the bathroom counter and pop my feet in the ice. I thought she was crazy. After about 30 seconds, I was *sure* of it. And then, after about three minutes, I realized that my mother was a freaking genius. The feet stopped hurting. I've never forgotten how *good* they felt. Damn. It works. Your virtual walking pharmacy, Sara On May 30, 2010, at 6:57 24PM, a Frazee wrote: > Thanks, but you only take Vicodin at night right? Guest guest
Sara, you're not alone...vicodin or tramadol both have this effect on both my husband and myself. I lie awake for hours, happy enough to be doing so, but not sleeping. I take tramadol in the daytime for overall muscle aches and foot aches. Guest guest
It's good to know I'm not alone, because whenever I discuss this with my GP he looks at me like there are lobsters crawling out of my ears. Ha. " Happy enough to be doing so. " Yes. I love my bed. I'm lying there, blissfully pain-free, relaxed and happy. The only problem: I don't sleep. The only upside to this is that the best writing I've ever done in my career is the stuff that hits me at 2 am, and then I sit right up and catch it while it's fresh. (I may still be at the keyboard when the sun comes up.) If I roll over and go back to sleep, by morning, it's gone. If I'm awake anyway, I'm at least more amenable to getting up and catching the good stuff while it's still fresh and hot. End with ice water. If you haven't taken an epsom salt bath recently, be sure you begin with a half dose because some people herx from epsom salt baths. Guest guest
I get my tramadol from my LLMD. It seems milder with fewer side effects (less constipation) than straight codeine, for me anyway, but it relieves my pain most of the time. I actually take 1/2 of a pill first and then if the relief is not enough I take another 1/2 pill. Often it is enough because the waves of pain/sickness sometimes just peak at a certain part of the day (most often early afternoon to late afternoon) and by the time the tramadol wears off, I seem better. Also, I am a big believer in interrupting pain before it gets too bad...a lot of my pain is musculoskeletal and the slight interruption seems to allow muscles to relax/recover a bit. If I wait too long to take something, then the pain often intensifies to a level where the eventual pain reliever doesn't help so much. I have no difficulties however with addiction issues. On days when I have no pain it doesn't occur to me to take anything. That said, I take tramadol at least half the time. Maureen RE: [ ] Feet Pain Sara, you're not alone...vicodin or tramadol both have this effect on both my husband and myself. I lie awake for hours, happy enough to be doing so, but not sleeping. I take tramadol in the daytime for overall muscle aches and foot aches. Maureen M
Guest guest
I have horrible foot pain too. Mine is much worse on the bottoms of my feet. A burning, tingling pain. I need to check into Bartonella. So far I've only been treated for Lyme. Stacey > > Hi, > > I have so much pain in my feet. Feels like my bones burn in the tops and sides of my feet. I work at Half Price Books and am on my feet all day long...it is worse if I sit down and get back up...can barely walk. Anyone experience this? Maybe it's not Lyme, but Fibromyalgia? > Thanks, > a >
Guest guest
I take Tramadol also. It really doesn't seem to help me all that much. Just takes the edge off really bad pain. Why do doctors not want patients on Tramadol? Stacey > > Maureen - do you get your tram from a family doctor? I use to get that and now they say they dont want people on it ..............it's not a bad med and it helped me tons!!!! > > >
Guest guest
They are saying it could be addictive and I shouldn't be on it?? I told them that's crap - yes, it takes the edge off - but I am grateful for that   told me I have to go to a pain center................... ________________________________ From: Stacey <kremel29@...> Sent: Mon, May 31, 2010 4:36:44 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Feet Pain  I take Tramadol also. Guest guest
You should see a Podiatrist ( foot doctor ) as foot pain could be caused by many different problems which can be corrected.
