Sher.......thanx for asking. I'm doing well. As of Dec no recurrance of cancer... that's since Nov 04. As to hearing from me.........I could yammer on about various excuses, but I think my best friend, who happens to be an Aussie, says it best. He attributes it to me being a "slack bastard"..........actually I just got my annual email from him this past weekend in which he admitted to being the same. Guess that is why we are so well suited. Another excuse..........I retired on Feb 15...and since then I just haven't had time.....weird how that works. When you write "Oregon", I immediately think..... it's approximately 6 or 7 weeks until strawberry season. I don't miss many things from the Northwest, but summer produce is one and strawberries are at the top of the list. We get berries here from

California......sorry all you Californians. They are mostly red, they are shaped like strawberries, sometimes even smell like strawberries. but they ain't strawberries. They are a product, grown in fields on what looks like strawberry plants, that are genetically engineered to be shipped to Bum-phooey, Alaska and arrive lookin' good. Taste like funny shaped, red golf balls. Okay.....that's my strawberry rant, except to say.........years ago I took the whole family (wife, daughter and 4 step sons) to Vancouver, Wa at the peak of the season. None of them had ever been out of the State. I kept telling them they were in for a treat. Mostly, their responses were yawns.....I found a u-pick, and we drove to it in the rental car. Once they got a taste they were out in the field with those awful plastic grocery bags. There was a faucet to wash them.... we stood by the car, I'll bet we ate 20 pounds. They couldn't believe the taste. We ate enough that our

collective digestive systems went into full rebellion. Oh........it was heavenly!! Okay, now I'm done. Actually, I have some questions about sat levels during sleep, but I'll come back to that later. Now, after re-reading this I'm wondering if I haven't done this rant previously (about the berries)......ah.....a mind is a terrible thing to lose. Oh well....you know what they say about Alzheimer's......I forgot....lest anyone think I make fun of the illness know this, my grandfather and father died from Alzheimer's. jim IPF 05 alaska Sher Bauman wrote: AJ....oh how I agree! I'm glad your experience was positive too. To bad we can't see just

them! How are you feeling? Is the cancer still hiding it's face? We don't hear much from you and I love your posts... A warm hug from Oregon to your Alaska! Mama-Sher, age 69.IPF 3/06, NSIP 4/08 OR. He is damn busy, but he makes time to "treat" me. He has even researched pulmo questions to help me find answers. Anyway, that's not why I'm writing........I'm writing about Respiratory Therapists. I've only had contact with 2 so my experience is limited, but both are EXCELLENT sources of information, One does

my periodic PFT, and the other runs the small company that rents me all my O2 equipment. This guy is available 24/7. I'm not able to do pulmo rehab because I choose to live 350 miles from Anchorage so this guy makes himself available by phone. I'm making this way too long and drawn out. In my experience, both of these RTs provide me with as much or more info than any MD. Like anything else, there are bound to be duds, but I've had great experience with them. jim IPF 05 alaska Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now.

Jim.... thanks for your reply! I love hearing from you and yes oh yes the strawberries are soon to be here. I used to make wonderful strawberry freezer jam...maybe I will again.........the taste is incredible.

So. What are you doing since now retired? My husband and I often comment we can't imagine having a job now.

Did you get into Oregon from Vancouver?

Now you have piqued my curiosity about sats during sleep........why in heck didn't you go ahead and comment while you had my attention? I have recently been scripted for O2 at night into my cpap. I think I'm feeling better during the day and my sats seldom drop below low 90s daytime unless I'm exerting myself someway.

BTW.....purse your little lips, purse your little lips, purse your little lips and blow........

We get really desperate don't we? lol.

Jim,

We have had strawberries here since January and most of them are just as you described them-perfectly shaped, brilliant red, no taste. But for some reason the strawberries that are grown around Disneyland taste wonderful!

I love strawberry season and I will gladly drive the hour each week just to get a flat of them even though I have strawberry fields all around me in Carlsbad. I have no clue why the others are so tasteless. Take care- Sarcoid/PF 3/2006 California

Hey Sher.........yes, we spent a week in Seaside. First 40 years of my life I lived just outside Vancouver. Went to boarding school in Roseburg, lived in Portland. I know the area well. RE: retirement. I think it is that whatever I do I just do it a lot slower......no pressure to get to work. I even drive slower. Getting up, showering, and getting ready to go can take 2 hours. I can stand in the living room and look at the melting snow and pick my nose .......as long as I want. You know, ever since I've had this freaking disease I've been told to slow down. And, of course, I should have.....and I did....when my sats dropped to 75 and I'm doubled over gasping. I worried that I was doomed to keep "trying to slow down".....not even. Remove a 8-10 hour workday and voila' .........I beez slow!!! The transition was so quick and easy that I'm still amazed. Like you and your husband.......I can't imagine going to work every day. So.....I don't do much, but I

do it so slow that it takes me all day. Ain't it cool ??? Plus......my life long ambition has been to be like the elder men that I grew up around and be a "duffer".....I'm gettin' there. When I see folks in town and they ask "what you doin' now" ? I tell them "duffin'". jim Sher Bauman wrote: Jim.... thanks for your reply!
