Guest guest
I am wondering whether there would be any harm in using hot compresses more than twice a day. Should they be hot or warm? Will I cause broken blood vessels around my eyes by using heat on them? Sherry

When I first got blepharitis--no rosacea at first--I went to the eye doctor who told me to start using the warm compresses and baby shampoo. Fine. But I am the kind of person who really gove overboard on things like this. So I continued to do it several times a day with really hot compresses. I developed a cluster of visible blood vessels all around my eyelids both top and bottom which I then decided to treat with hydrocortisone. At my derms suggestion, I might add. Well you can imagine what a mess I got into! Ever seen those online pics of severe ocular rosacea??? Well, that looked like me. My advice is to use them only once a day. Now I am able to do it only every other day and I'm fine. Here is something I learned from another ocular sufferer and it has been invaluable to me. Take a gallon of distilled water and add 2 tsp salt. This is very similar to natural healthy tear chemistry. Then I take about 4 or 5 oz in a cup and heat it in the microwave until it is pretty warm but not so hot it is burning--like 40 seconds or so. Take a cotton ball, dip it in the solution and apply it to closed lids. As the cotton ball cools, I keep redipping it. After about 5 minutes the cup of water becomes cool and I reheat the cup for about 12 seconds and repeat. All in all I guess I do this for about 10 minutes each morning. The reason why I like this method is because when I use a hot washcloth I feel like I am heating up my whole eye area which is unnecessary. Plus there is something really soothing about these eye soaks. Hope this helps! Marji
