Guest guest
WHAT are the symptoms of an abnormal thyroid. thanks J
Guest guest
I have had underactive thyroid since I was ten; I am now 41. My sister , and 2 nieces all got it after their first pregnancy; they were all about age 32 at the time. My mom got it at age 70, a friend got it at age 55. No one but me has rosacea. No doctor has ever told me of any connection between the two. I was told that as long as you are taking the correct dosage of meds that there should be no side effects from the underactive thyroid. Guest guest
Anyone have any problems with their thyroid? hyper or hypo? Any connection with rosacea? Janet
Guest guest
Janet, I'm hypo. It's hard to say if the hypo caused the rosacea or vice versa. It can make managing rosacea harder because the hypo makes a person very tired. This may increase the chances for a flare. Guest guest
<< I have Hypo thyroid which I discovered in October. >> I have been taking thyroxin for hypothyroidism for 50 years - since I was 8. I've just had cea for a few years. My thyroid function tests are normal. I don't think thyroid and cea are connected. Jane G.

It's not something they test for generally, so you have to have symptoms of " other " things before they actually test you for it. I have had rosacea for 5+ years now. My doctor did tell me a few of the things the side effects and I definitely had them ALL. I feel much better on the medication, and have had ONLY one breakout since October. I've not taken any antibiotics for my cea nor have I put any creams on my face what so ever (accept normal store bought moisturizer) accept that one break out about 6 or 8 weeks ago. My face is more clear then it's EVER been in 5 years ... so ... you make the call! So far I haven't been able to find a doctor that will link them .. but they say if your thyroid is in check, then your body is more balanced. I still don't know much about the thyroid problems, but I'm learning, as I have to be on this hormone for my thyroid for the rest of my life. Good luck ... maybe you'll have more time to figure it out! LOL ANOTHER THING .... I never ever break out or have flushing during pregnancy, and I don't have ANY of the other side effects during pregnancy that my hypo thyroid gives me, so I'm anxious to have it tested while pregnant and see if maybe it corrects it's self then ... who knows! It's all a guessing game to me! But I sure would be interested if anyone finds out a link between the two!!! Thanks for posting that ... I have wondered too!!! (now some of these are more serious then others ... ) HYPOthyroid symptoms are: (this is what I have - it's TOO LITTLE THYROID HORMONE) Slow pulse " puffy face " (there you go ... that and rosasea go hand in hand right!) loss of eyebrows drooping eyelids intolerance to cold weight gain hair loss dry scaly course skin carpal tunnel syndrome depressions dementia confusion (now I only had a few of these symptoms, but my doctor also said that extreme tiredness, infertility and other minor symptoms are also related to HYPO thyroid. It took my hubby and I 28 months to get pregnant with our 2nd child, and I have slowly gained weight over the last couple years, and also a lot of the skin problems I have or have had, and the tiredness ... I was ALWAYS tired, and that just wasn't me!!) Hope this helps!!
Guest guest
I have pretty much convinced myself that I am hypothyroid. I have so many symptoms right out of the textbook list of indicators for this disease. I had bloodwork done on Friday and I am waiting for the results as I write this. I am frightened that it will come back negative. I have talked to so many (mostly women) who have experienced this but when you ask the medical professionals, they tell you the TSH test is very definitive. It wouldn't be the first time I didn't buy what the docs say! Beth
Guest guest
I have read on the internet about a test which can test for the possibility of a hypothyroid condition. The test does not prove that one is hypothyroid, but it can be an indicator of the condition. To do the test: Have a thermometer by your bed, and when you wake up in the morning (and before getting up), take your axillary temperature (under your arm pit). With a glass thermometer wait this process takes about 10 minutes, for a digital, about 2 minutes should be sufficient. Take the test for 3 days and record your results: If your temperature was lower than 97.6 ( or 97.8, according to another source) for the 3 days, you may be hypothyroid. " Normal " results usually range from 97.8 to 98.2. I, myself, took the test the other day, it came in at 97.1. Guest guest
My normal body temp is around 97°. I also had a full thyroid panel done, and the dr. said it was normal. Guest guest
If you suspect you have this condition through the test below and have symptoms (like feeling cold always, hair loss, constipation, extreme fatigue), don't do what I did and self-medicate. I read in a health food magazine that taking kelp was a natural way to treat hypothyroidism. I took it for a few months and got a face full of zits, but still had the symptoms. Apparently, kelp can be acnegenic for some of us and the high iodine content of kelp may actually make the situation worse by further lowering the amount of thyroid hormone that your thyroid produces. Have an endocrinologist examine you if you suspect you have this problem. Guest guest
You could be borderline hypothyroid. I've found loads of good info at the www.deja.com newsgroup alt.thyroid and at the www.about.com website on thyroid problems.
