Guest guest
Steve... I'm buttin' in here....I have been on Cymbalta for about a year. I've taken just about every med there is for depression/anxiety over the years. Cymbalta is good for me. I think I've finally found what works. Of course Cymbalta was not on the med scene years ago or was not Rx for me. I started going to a pain clinic for meds...that's all they do. They worked with me with great compassion to find a happy medium between adequate pain control/fewest side effects. A hard balance to find, believe it or not. I know Drs are paranoid about pain meds. My then pcp refused to give more meds and offered no other options so I went to the pain clinic and changed pcp. Now I'm happy as a clam in a warm shell. I do hope you can work out the pain meds thing. For a person who deals with legitimate pain it must be addressed for some quality of life. Good luck. Mama-Sher, age 69.IPF 3/06, NSIP 4/08 OR. Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Re: Re: Sher/Bruce/Caro... Cook I tried to get through last night, but could never get through. Last week, I got through 10 times, but this week not any. I hope he still makes it!! Well, I am off to the Internal Med doc for the dreaded Pap smear, etc. God I absolutely hate those!! So, voting onher home phone which is AT & T you rarely get busy signals. When she triesher cell and when I voted last night on my cell (both of us haveSprint), you only get through once every 20 times or so. Not sure why itis, but somehow AT & T has a smoother path if you're starting with them.> Bruce....I'll answer in the morning....gee whiz, AI is on!> Mama-Sher, age 69.IPF 3/06, NSIP 4/08 OR.> Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there!>> ----- Original Message -----> .>>>>>> Caro> ASTHMA 1976,OSTEOARTHRITIS 2002, COPD 02/06, IPF 08/07, UIP 01/08,RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 03/08> Mississippi>>>----------------------------------------------------------\------> Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
Sher/Steve I know others who have found Cymbalta very good. I'm defined officially when it comes to psychiatric meds as " medication resistant " and so had side effects from it, but I had them from 30 others too. As to pain, I understand them not wanting to use too much of certain meds. But the better reason than dependence, in my opinion, is that you will build up tolerance and then the same dosage will not be effective. That's one of the improvements for instance in many psychiatric and sleep meds that once you find a dosage, that dosage continues to work. But, the old meds, such as the tricyclides, Xanax, Valium, and many pain killers were additive in nature and you would find yourself needing more to achieve the same effect. Requip is one that often is that way too, as you'll need more but then its difficult to say whether its because you build a tolerance or because your condition worsens. It was when i needed more that the side effects kicked in horribly (couldn't stand with my eyes closed without falling and couldn't walk down a hall without hitting both walls). Unfortunately, this is the case with oxycodone and most pain killers in many patients, that one may find the same dosage no longer effective. Dependence? Addiction? Ok, for those I say, who cares. I'm dependent on every med I take and don't have a single one I won't take for the rest of my life. So if there were one more that would relieve pain and had no other negatives, I'd say more power to it. Like someone saying you'll get addicted to oxygen. I was addicted to oxygen 58 years ago, I just need a supplement now to get the right amount. Doctors need to work with patients to find the right balances on everything. There is one other catch 22 my pulmonologist warned of with oxycodone or vicodin. If they relieve lung pain and in so doing enable your lung to function better and easier, then your lung may become dependent and stop doing as much on its own and become less able to function without it than it otherwise would have. Now, I don't know how much validity there is in that, but my pulmonologist did voice that concern. > > Bruce....I'll answer in the morning....gee whiz, AI is on! > > Mama-Sher, age 69.IPF 3/06, NSIP 4/08 OR. > > Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > . > > > > > > > > > > > > Caro > > ASTHMA 1976,OSTEOARTHRITIS 2002, COPD 02/06, IPF 08/07, UIP 01/08, > RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 03/08 > > Mississippi > > > > > > > ----------------------------------------------------------\ > ------ > > Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
