Guest guest
Hi, It would probably help to--when you are hungry--pause, imagine, debate, reflect--about the meal or food that you are about to have, not only how it will feel and taste in your mouth, but how you will feel afterwards. I have often had these sugar versus what my body really wants issues. I continue to eat and enjoy lots of wonderful foods with sugar (wouldn't give it up). However, I do my best to listen to what my body really wants. Frequently what it wants isn't glittery or exciting. It's plain vanilla, ordinary. Often, I have found that the protein type sandwich is what is going to really satisfy--and then I have the wonderful dessert (sometimes not very much) afterwards. There are other times when I want to sit and enjoy a meal of cake or something sweet and nothing else. That also can work. Also, I like to think of it as eating what my body wants--not what " I " or my head wants. We have limits. Our bodies have limits. Learning about these is part of the journey. L > > This would describe how I am feeling right now! I have been trying to do the IE thing for a little over a year now. I pretty much eat what I want, when I want etc. I feel like one problem is the foods that I am eating and craving are making my body feel tired and sluggish. I crave lots of sugary things. It also doesn't help that I grew up in a meat and potatoes and junk food house. I feel like I pick Twinkies over an apple. I used to do Weight Watchers and I have to admit I did have energy when I did it. I do not want to go back to dieting. But at the same time, I am sick of being so tired! Does anyone else feel this way? I find it hard to exercise too, which I also get more energy from for sure. I just can't get off the couch sometimes! Oh what to do! Any insight or advice is very much appreciated!! : ) >
Guest guest
I very much relate to what you're saying. I chose a few months ago to eat only what I wanted to eat, what I craved. At first, it was almost all fatty and sugary. I took that time to work on losing my judgment about these types of foods. I found that it was my judgment (thinking of them as " bad " or " unhealthy " ) that was giving them power. After a while, I did become aware that a lot of these foods made me feel bad afterwards. I continued to only eat what I was craving, but focused on just being aware of how I felt during and after without judgment. After a while, I got to the point that I was done eating these types of foods before I was satisfied, and I started craving more nutrient-rich foods. At my current stage I go in cycles. Sometimes I crave nutrient, fiber-rich foods. Sometimes I crave sugar and fat. I always indulge my cravings, whatever they are, though. Who knows what my next stage will be, but I feel myself slowly coming to a sense of peace with all food. And I find that even when I'm wanting high fat, sugar foods, I'm acquiring an appetite to stop before I reach a point where I feel bad afterwards. I think we're born with this sort of natural, effortless food intelligence, but we lose touch with it due to restriction, etc. Good luck! Sara > > This would describe how I am feeling right now! Guest guest
I find that if I wait to eat until I am hungry I find it easy to be aware when I am satisfied. Two bites more and I get the feeling of being slightly uncomfortable. My issues are waiting until I am hungry. It never coincides with my lunch break at work ( & we are not allowed to eat at our desk ) and I am not home to eat again till 5:30. Then I am famished and have a headache and don't want to cook, because I am tired and have a headache! Weekends , everything works great as it should and I feel more at ease eating when I am hungry. Any ideas on what will help during the work week ?!? I have found out thru IE that I am not a snacker... I don't like mini meals, or really even sandwiches. I am now keeping only what I love to eat in the house. No more bags of salad that just get thrown out. I don't care for cold food( ex. salad)... At 57 it is fun to find out what I like and not what I have been told to like ! kttn Subject: Re: Ugh!To: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Monday, January 11, 2010, 3:56 PM I very much relate to what you're saying. Any ideas on what will help during the work week ?!?†--------------------------------------------- I am not sure what to do about this either. There are times when I am into a schedule (business meetings, travel, kids, etc). When it’s time for a business lunch, I have a little bit of food to participate in the event, even if I am not hungry. Then by dinner I am very hungry, but able to get through the afternoon. I also keep some prepackaged, long shelf-life, items available just in case I can’t hold off until dinner. I have a similar problem with breakfast. I am feeling constrained to a timeframe, which doesn’t always equate to my hungry time. To the others… suggestions please! Thanks, Amie
Guest guest
I work 2 days a week, and my wake time is 2 hours earlier on those days, because I operate on my husband's work schedule the rest of the week. Over time, I've developed this intuition on just how satisfied I should be with each snack/meal in order to make it through the day without any severe hunger. I'm on a fairly tight schedule at work and I find that my snack of choice is peanuts. I always feel good when I eat them, they're quick and satisfying and very enjoyable to me. You might play around with your meals: try a little less or more for breakfast, play around with snack sizes, try to find something snackable and quick that you really love, etc. I think the number one priority is not to let yourself get too hungry. When I get in the habit of letting myself get too hungry, I tend to gain weight. I think my body senses famine conditions and wants extra insurance. I think eating when not hungry is better for me, than letting myself get too hungry. Even just stepping away from your desk for a quick few bites can really help. Plus, you'll be much more productive at work, with better energy. I think my mind works so much better when I don't let myself get undernourished during the day Good luck! Guest guest
I'm a chemist and on days where I need to be in lab for 10 hrs and everything has it's own timer (it's like I'm some sort of terrible chef), occasionally it is impossible to get meals. If I get hungry, I will try to have a 3 minute snack (and I really don't like eating quickly). I like a handful of almonds, primal strips (vegetarian jerky), and luna bars because you can eat them quickly and they have a relatively large amount of protein (if I eat something that is all sugar, I get hungry again too quickly and end up taking more snack breaks). Cheers! ~ > > > > > > This would describe how I am feeling right now! I have been trying to do the IE thing for a little over a year now. Guest guest
Hello, I notice that I am quite the same way as you. I am still fairly new to IE and have noticed that if I eat those simple 100 calorie " deserts " or snacks, I feel more satisifed for that sweet tooth fill. They have so many different kinds out there too from sweets to salty. I have also noticed if I drink a big glass of water then I am not as hungry as I thought I was and don't tend to eat as much as I normally would have. Hope it helps, > > This would describe how I am feeling right now! I have been trying to do the IE thing for a little over a year now. Guest guest
I think that this might be the key for me! I had water with me at all times yersterday and felt much better! I like water, I just need to drink it! I actually felt more energetic and clear headed! Thanks for your help! > > I was doing WW also before doing IE. One thing I've noticed that did on WW that I don't seem to be doing as much of now is consuming H2O, and have read that dehydration may contribute to feelings of fatigue. Maybe an increase in water might help you. > > All the best, > Jeanne >
