, My husband has had the kind of cough that you describe. Every 30 seconds and all throuugh the nights. It is horrible I know. Very typically he would cough for two nights and then the 3 night his body would say, "cough or no cough you have to sleep". I haven't walked in your shoes but my husband has. In March he lost his voice and the doc let it go on for 4 weeks. Then he sent him to an Ear Nose and Throat doc. She looked down his throat and found that his voice was gone because of acid reflux. We said that was impossible because he already was on previcid. She put him on a pretty severe regiment for acid reflux and his voice is better (not back and raspy yet- but better) and the cough is a lot better. It certainly isn't gone but better where he can sleep at least through the night. Now, many of the people on this board with ipf do have acid reflux.

It might not be what is causing your problems, but it might be worth a question to the doc. Good luck and I'm sorry you have to be going through this and had to find us.
