Guest guest
If the police take the report and keep a file you are eligible for both criminal injuries compensation in most states and for victim services who will attend court with you. Carol " Apple " wrote: > --------------------------------------------- > Attachment: > MIME Type: multipart/alternative > --------------------------------------------- Thank you . I guess the crap is all coming back because so many of the people who remember me talking about it ARE AA members who give AA type answers. I am happy though, that the two detectives who took my statement (both men) seemed to be sensitive and behaved in a way that indicated that they had had previous training in how to handle such matters. Before I filed the police report which was the first step in initiating an investigation, I called the police station to ask them what time I could come down to file a report. The police officer asked me what I would be reporting and when I told him, his voice had such a tone of comic alarm... as if I had said that I was reporting Martians landing in my back yard. If I had tried to pursue this matter immediately after it had happened, I truly believe that I would have been too traumatized to do it. A smart alecky response from an ignorant cop would have sent me deeper over the edge. Now, six years later, I can just say " fuckin' prick " in my mind and keep forging ahead to get to those people who are going to handle the situation sensibly. It's very hard to face the court system as a freshly traumatized individual who doesn't even have family support as was my situation at that time in my life. I think that's why my state lifted the statute of limitations for this type of crime. The law sees it as seriously as if it were murder, and in a way, it's a type of murder of the soul. I truly feel that these pricks took a big dump in my soul and their crap is very hard to clean out. Kind of like asbestos removal. Thanks for your vote of confidence. Who knows, the investigators may even contact you to see if I truly wrote the story.
