I had a large cranietomy in 1990, and just in December I had a partial cranioplasty to make the bone defect smaller. There is more to this but the important part is that my neuropathy is GONE!!! Guest guest
I have had the tingling in the extremities for over a year and a half. There are days that it turns into a burning pain. My neurologist diagnosed me with Lhermitte's Phenomena. This was before he was sure I had the Chiari. Here are some excerpts from different websites on Lhermittes. **funicular pain, characterized by central burning and stinging w/ or w/o (Lhermitte's phenomenon - radiating lightening like sensations down back w/ neck flexion) may also be present w/ myelopathy; **Lhermitte's sign refers to a sudden electrical sensation down the neck and back triggered by neck flexion. This was originally described in a patient with multiple sclerosis and dorsal column dysfunction. The conditions which can produce a Lhermitte's sign are: multiple sclerosis cervical spondylosis cervical disc herniation cervical spinal cord tumor Chiari I malformation radiation myelopathy subacute combined degeneration (caused by vitamin B12 deficiency) **Lhermitte's sign is a symptom which has been described as a shock-like sensation radiating down the spine, usually provoked by neck flexion (bending forward). Shocks radiating UP the spine are sometimes referred to a reverse Lhermitte's sign. These symptoms may be signs of pressure on the spinal cord due to old fractured bone, bone spurs, herniated discs, as well as many other possibilities. If a patient is experiencing Lhermitte's symptoms, it is strongly recommended for that patient to seek the advice and evaluation of a neurologist or neurosurgeon or orthopedic spine specialist. There are a few websites that touch on Lhermitte's. I hope that this info helps in some way. Take Care, Anne p.s. You might want to try going to this website. It tells of Paresthesia which describes your symptoms more than Lhermitte's does. http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/paresthesia.htm May the angels be with us all... chiari and burning sensation > > > Hi, > > I wondering if I could ask you all a question.
