Guest guest
> Hi Eliza: What symptoms do you get when you eat foods which contain gluten (wheat, barley or rye grains)? You said you 'feel sick', but what does that mean? If you have painful gastrointestinal reactions, you may actually have celiac disease. However, if you have other physical reactions, you may just be gluten intolerant, like an estimated 25-30% of Americans. Nevertheless you do NOT have to abstain from all breads, cereals, pastas, pastries, etc. You just need to find tasty gluten free versions of those foods. Abstaining will make you feel deprived and that often leads to bingeing. So focus on substituting gluten free products. > > Try a few varieties of gluten free breads, cereals, pastas, etc. before you decide whether you like GF products. Many people dislike the GF breads which are mostly white rice. If you liked 'whole wheat' products, look for GF breads with more fiber and different grains and seeds in the product. Ener-G Foods and Kinnikinnick make some decent breads. Whole Foods makes their own variety of gluten free bread, which my church offers during communion for celiacs. > > Also look for foods and grains which are naturally gluten free, like corn, brown rice, millet, amaranth, quinoa, beans, vegies, fruits, nuts, meats, etc. There are actually a greater variety of gluten free grains than those with wheat, barley or rye. > > If substituting GF foods decreases your symptoms, you may indeed have gluten intolerance. Anyway the other day I was watch Dr. Oz show once and the woman who is gluten free as I was watched. That what lead me to reading some more on gluten and how they effect for some certain people's life. Even if not all have celiac diease. Wheat breads are the worst taste I ever had and it's gluten as well the white breads is so-so. I don't eat them often either did I eat cereals often. I just didn't think about it that I did listen to my body even though not often enough as I should back then as I am doing that right now. One of those day I plan to buy that book as remind myself if I ever decide to have those type of foods with the price on my body. > > Eliza >
Guest guest
Hey Sue, What is GF? Never hear of that. As for pain? Nope, not so much though if I eat way too much of glutens foods then yeah stomach upset and pain for a day or two. But if I only eat one piece of sandwich for example and then no there is not any pain. So, I think somehow more of gluten intolerance than anything else. Though I do want to try gluten free foods such as that and see how my body response because since I always tired pretty much in my whole life. That is one of many reason why I end up with couple of health problems because of how tired my body always everyday for years as I am used to it. However, I want to do change and stop being so tired all time. This is worth to try and see what happen. Guest guest
Hi Eliza: GF = gluten free. Sorry I used celiac 'lingo'. LOL Stomach upset and pain after eating too many gluten containing foods could mean celiac disease (CD) or just gluten intolerance. Fatigue is also a common symptom of both CD and gluten intolerance. Actually celiac disease is just the intestinal damage manifestion of gluten intolerance, which can manifest in many different physical symptoms. However, the 'treatment' is the same for both: just abstain from gluten for a few weeks or months and see how you feel. SUE PS I suspect that book was either " Living Gluten Free for Dummies " or " Cooking Gluten Free for Dummies " . > > Hey Sue, > > What is GF? Never hear of that. As for pain?  Nope, not so much though if I eat way too much of glutens foods then yeah stomach upset and pain for a day or two. But if I only eat one piece of sandwich for example and then no there is not any pain. So, I think somehow more of gluten intolerance than anything else. Though I do want to try gluten free foods such as that and see how my body response because since I always tired pretty much in my whole life. Guest guest
Thanks Sue, yeah that's it " Living Gluten Free for Dummies " . Anyway yeah I did look up more on site for this gluten free such as that. I even look up on cereals as well. Found out that I have quite a few that are glutens and I understand why I have had stomach issues. I told my sister to see if anyone in neighbor who might like this kind of cereals. I did find some cereals that are gluten free that I actually like because I have had eat that before. Thanks again Sue.
