Guest guest
Date: Mon, 03 January 2000 08:57 PM EST Using the last of my free month on AOL ; saw this on ocular rosacea From: Esthergb Il Jane, Have you tried the oil expressing thingy that Toty and Marji have both done for their eyes? Here's a link that might help - I think you have to register, though, to get the information on the site. dry eye - documents 1 to 10 Anyway, here's what is causing the dryness in ocular rosacea - Marji taught me this so if I get wrong and she's reading, hopefully, she'll jump in. The oil thickens with rosacea. Eventually it clogs the oil glands. When that happens, the eye loses it's oil barrier and the water layer next to the eye evaporates. Hence, dry eyes. And all the other annoying things that people get with ocular rosacea - styes, swelling, redness, etc. One way to start things up again is the expression of the oil glands. It has to be done by a doctor. Mind you, it hurts from what Marji always said but was worth it. The other thing that helps is compresses. Here's the secret with them, though, that the doctor's don't seem to quite get. The worse your eyes are, the cooler the compresses need to be. Lukewarm is good if your eyes are basically just alittle annoying. Room temperature if they are driving you crazy. And you need to cleanse the lids carefully. With baby shampoo on a Qtip - daily. The goal is to get some of the oil free and allowing it to form the barrier again. Bet a nickel you heard all this before from your doctors, but you never know.... Esther -- J.
