Guest guest
Hi, all! My name is Grace and I have pancreatitis (wow, sounds like a bad AA meeting already). I was diagnosed this past Mother's Day and spent a week in hospital and am still recovering from the gall-bladder removal. I had been having problems for about 6-8 months but did not see it for what it was because it only happened when I ate onions or bell peppers or overindulged in sodas. These things did not strike me as odd because my mother has the same problem except hers only causes gassiness rather than excruciating pain with vomiting. The past two weeks have been fun since the only instruction I got was " if it hurts after you eat it, don't eat it " . When I went into the hospital, my lipase level was 16,960 and my amylase was running a close second. Following surgery, my levels were within normal limits. My husband and I have six children. Our eldest is married and has a beautiful 4 month old son. Things are rather lively around here and I cannot afford too many down days from pain. What does having pancreatitis mean in terms of day-to-day living? A social worker came into the room and said something about disability but I was so groggy, I do not remember much clearly. I do not feel disabled as I've just finished teaching Vacation Bible School to a roomful of wiggling 4 year olds. The pain has not been screaming today and yesterday, but before that I had been pain-free two weeks. I do not even know what I need to return to the doctor for and what to just put up with. I've got a lot to keep going for, a wonderful family, great job, and an outgoing church family. Any help to ease the way would be welcomed. because He lives, Grace in MS
