Guest guest
Hi. My mother has Shy-Drager and her balance is so bad that she is usually lying down or seated. Much of the time she is in a wheel chair because it gives her more support for her bad back than an easy chair. Recently we had problems with her sliding down in the wheel chair, which is just terrible for her lower back. We discovered a fairly inexpensive solution called a " pommel pad. " These are made specifically for wheel chairs. Basically, they have a large padded bump that is in the front of the pad between the rider's legs. It acts much like the horn on a saddle and keep the rider from sliding forward. Also, because my mom sometimes forgets that she has no balance, she sometimes decides to get up on her own, usually resulting in a fall. The pommel seat has been useful for preventing this because it is much harder for her to get up over the pommel. These seats are widely available in medical supply companies and my Mom's cost only $50. The list price was about $70 but the home she is in gets a discount. I hope this helps someone out there. Best wishes to all!
