Hi -

My MGB was March 6th but due to a bowel obstruction, I have only been

keeping food/drink down for six days. I am trying to make up for a

three week " fast " by taking in nutritious food but have missed that

initial diet learning curve that most of you had. I have been

drinking juice and eating things like vegetable & rice soup,

potatoes, oatmeal, a few crackers and yogurt. Dr. R said to be VERY

wary of any fat (eg: no eggs) yet someone told me one of the early

foods she tolerated well was microwave mac & cheese (7 gm of fat per

serving on the brand I looked at). I also know of people who have

had pizza in the first week. One of my questions, then, is how much

of a problem has fat been? Either in percent fat or grams per

serving or just a generic sense. Do I need to get fat free cottage

cheese or is 2 gm per 4 oz not that big a deal? Do I need to worry

about 1 vs 3 gm of fat per serving in my soup? Also, when might I

comfortably try tuna fish (I hear it's the best tolerated meat),

fresh fruits and veggies or bites of my husband's regular meals? And

has anyone tried those WOW (olestra) chips? Did they lead to

anything bad like cramps? Anything I should definitely stay away

from???

Finally, my stomach feels the best if I'm frequently eating something

(more so than drinking). Does this feeling subside?

This has been a long, grueling three weeks for me but I'm getting

stronger. Thanks for any tips you may have.

Gaye :)
