Guest guest
That's so cool! I used to go read to 's classes when she was younger. Surprisingly she's invited me to chaperone homecoming and the prom this year! I will be going to the game tonight (Ronnie willing) and then we're going with her and her Marine to eat tomorrow night (because we're paying LOL) but we'll leave them alone after that. He's staying at our house Saturday night so I'll see plenty of him then. He's driving from Mississippi tonight to be here in the morning and take her to the dance and leaving after breakfast Sunday to get back to the base by Monday morning. That's devotion LOL I had the best time yesterday Kayly's kids are in 2nd and 4th grades in a charter school for the gifted that is in the building I (and parents, grands and gr-grands) went to school in. Yesterday the kindergarten teacher had me come in to talk about the history of the town, and the building , and what things were like when I was a kid. At the level they'd understand, of course. I dug out alot of old pics and showed them how the building and town had changed and I was supposed to be there for 15-30 minutes, but it was a little over an hour--the teacher kept asking questions, and then they walked me all over the school to see how it had changed. Which was quite a bit (haven't been there since 1964, LOL) except that the linoleum on the first floor was the SAME, LOL. Anyway, it was great fun. I'm on a list Kayly made for them that tells the names of different people willing to come in and talk on different subjects. I'm hoping I get to go in again for different things, 'cause I really enjoyed it, it made a break from my usual day. Guest guest
Hmmmmmmm I thought I told y'all. It's the brother of her assistant band director. His name is Shea, he's 17, lives in Alabama with his mom and dad but he's stationed in Mississippi right now for training. He's an Aviation Supply Specialist. He was at her first ball game in September, they spent the entire time together and they've talked every night since then (we allow her one hour a night on the cell phone.. free minutes.. so he calls her and then she calls him back on the barracks pay phone) They are convinced they are in love. Time will tell. It always does LOL He is putting forth a LOT of effort just to take her to this dance. They had agreed she would go ahead and go with a group of friends but he called last week and surprised her and told her he was going to make the trip. Now we're all in a tizzy. Can't you tell? Here I sit, in the midst of the storm. LOLOL He just called and he's about an hour away so I suppose I should go get dressed. Pam, Dec. 18 he reports to Yuma, Arizona for his permanent duty station (why do they call them permanent? LOL OK 4 years.....) and swears she's going this summer. How far is that from you? He'll be at the Marine Air Base, Yuma. Here's the only picture I have of him (until later today LOL) and it was taken by accident when they met and Ronnie was using the new digital camera to take pics of her at the first game. We didn't know he was "significant" LOL I doctored it up and put it on 's computer desktop. Ronnie's trying to deal with the fact that he's a Marine hehehe Tonight, at dinner, should be really fun LOL I've talked to him several times on the phone, and listened to him talk to (yeah, I do that!!!) and he's very polite and shhhh he's a V-word!!! And wants to stay that way until he gets married. Whether it works out long term or not, if we can get to leave other guys alone and focus on school for the time being, we're way ahead of the game!! We're encouraging this as much as we can simply because right now, he's good for her. He's lonely so I guess she's good for him too. OK let's hear it. LOL Re: I had the best time yesterday What Marine? Did I miss something? Kathy
Guest guest
that does sound like fun. Glad you had a good time. That's great that you had the teachers really interested too. Guest guest
I was pre-engaged the summer after high-school to the guy I went steady with in high school. I got a tiny diamond that the store called a pre-engagement ring. We never ended up engaged, LOL. We did sleep together, but that actually happened before the pre-engagement ring. In my opinion the only reason that guy wanted to be pre-engaged was so I wouldn't date anyone else when I was away at college. LOL--he treated me like crap, and we broke up. So pre-engagement isn't a new thing--that was in 1970. Hope it goes better for than it did for me. Kathy
Guest guest
Yuma has to be at least 4 hours West of Tucson. It's right on the CA border. It is a town in the middle of no-where. Guest guest
Kat, maybe you can get a diamond as an anniversary ring later on. It's not the price of the ring that counts...but the sentiment behind it. I'm sure your promise ring is everybit as wonderful. Guest guest
Kat, I only had my plain wedding band for years, then gave me an inexpensive engagement ring. My rings are not expensive, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. This year, our 36th anniversary, I got diamond earrings. The important thing is that & I love each other & are committed to spending our lives together. Guest guest
Yep! For my ring, Ronnie and I took all the diamonds out of my wedding and engagement rings I had before (what, throw them away? Do I look stupid? LOL) and just had them re-set into a ring we both designed. It's special to us. Ronnie's ring uses 3 of the smaller diamonds from my old set and, of all things, a clump of gold I had from my dad's gold crowns before he had new caps done (they melted the gold down for him) and his ring is always getting compliments LOL He won't confess where the gold came from though. Guest guest
My engagement ring was my Nana's. It is white gold (I tend to break out if I wear yellow gold for too long anyway--always have, and so did Nana) and has a diamond that is just under 1/2 carat. The day my Mom gave it to me was the day we buried my great aunt and Mom got a huge three diamond ring of hers. I told Denny that when we got engaged, I knew it wasn't traditional, but I'd like to use my Nana's ring. After all , they were married over 60 years and still in love until the day she died. What could be better than that? My old ring sets I had sold along the way to pay for Christmas stuff when the kids were young. Kathy
