Guest guest
Sometimes they use the butterfly, sometimes not, I think it depends more on the person taking the bloods rather than the needle. I have a good strong vein, so they don't always reach for the butterfly one and it shouldn't be hard for them. Sometimes, like yesterday, I don't notice the bruise until much later in the day. When I took the plaster off I had a small but very dark bruise. Last night huge great bruise I'm on the blood thinners anyway, I think you are too aren't you Joyce? Pah! Guest guest
Mayleen, Before the PICC Line was inserted for total parenteral nutrition, what happened was they would find a vein for blood and IV line in order to receive the med's, by night time or the next day the vein would collapse and the IV fluids were leaking out. 3 times a day, they were taking my blood and sometimes 4....because they couldn't get it on the first try, so I would get poked about 8 times a day. I still have the bruises on my hands, it would take about another 2 weeks for them to disappear completely. With the PICC Line, I won't have to worry about getting poked because they can take blood from there, easy access for IV's/med's and TPN. A small needle should be used. My veins become iflamed which is why the blood drawing becomes difficult for me. I have a problem with needles, as well as IV's. you can request they use these instead of regular ones. Irene o yours constrict instead? As the week wears on the bruises turn all different colors. I am truly a work of art. Maybe we could start a new fad.. I am just so glad when there is an IV nurse or phlebotomist to stick me. Regular nurses do not draw blood well. I am a hard to stick gal and they just torture me. I always come out of the hospital looking like a map of the world. My arms were just covered this last time.
