Guest guest
Beth, Striations however can be an underlying cause of lack of 02 sometimes. In my particular case striations my be poisoning. Which I would find on no site probably. However, low oxygen, mercury poisoning, systemic diseases, heart problems and more can cause different conditions of the nails. The best is to ask you pulmonologist to check. The only one I saw, went straight for my nails after discussion He did not tell me what he was looking for, however, I already knew. I stay ahead. So when I noticed I figured it was time to look for a Doc again, find out what changed. This site I found useful info, only educational please. Always see your Doc. Reason why I am going back. I will probably have to be tested for heavy metal poisoning in my case. I've had two different dermatologists tell me that all fingernails have ridges on the underside and that if these ridges are showing through on the topside of our nails it is because the nail bed is drying out. So the remedy is the typical things like keeping gloves on when working with water and detergents and working outside etc. Using good quality moisturizers and cuticle oils. These don't replace moisture but they do keep your hands and nail beds from drying out further. I've also been told that fish oil supplements can help though I don't take them. The external stuff seems to work fine for me. I don't think that ridges have anything to do with our lung disease and the clubbing is really a separate issue as far as I know. Guest guest
Mayleen, I was only referring to the small white spots that everyone gets on their finger or toe nails from time to time. Not major striations or abnormality involving all the nails on their hands. Of course if there is something going on to that extent one should consult your physician.
