My mother used to leave butter out all the time in a butter dish? Is this ok if

you use it up pretty quickly? I thought butter didn't go rancid quickly.

I figured the butter would get rancid at room temp, so I put them in the

fridge.

I leave butter out and it seems fine to me. When I'm not using the AC in the

summer I only leave a quarter cup or so out at a time...in cooler weather I

can leave more out.

We use a butter bell to store butter at room temp. In the butter bell,

butter can keep without spoiling for 30 days at room temp. I've never

tested the claim as our 1/2 cup butter is usually gone in a day or two!

Check out www.butterbell.com.

Hi there Liane,

pretty scarey article there, but fortunately it is what is known as an Urban

Myth.

So much of what is printed is either untrue, or a combination of some truths and

some ridiculous additions. I don't know why anyone would want to cause torment

and fear by spreading malicious lies and mistruths, but then I guess that is one

of the things the human race is pretty famous for, (or at least some of it is).

If you check out Snopes.com at this link:

http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/butter.asp

you will be able to read the collected evidence on this multiple status article.

Some true a while ago, some never true.

I check Snopes for nearly everything I get these days. You wouldn't believe the

number of articles and pics that are figments of some persons' imagination.

Thanks for pasting the article though. Always good to hear of anything that may

be harmful, and it can be checked on Snopes.com or another good one I also use

called Hoax-slayer.com

Cheers, Shauna :o)
