Guest guest
Hi Very Juniper, 1.) Yes, carbonated drinks are disallowed. Unfortunately for me, I just had to deal with letting it go and drink decaf iced tea with splenda if I want it sweetened, crystal light, and water. I am a coffee drinker, but I switched over to decaf because the caffine makes you dehydrated. Not good for losing weight if your body is sucking in the water you drink because of the caffine. 2.) On a personal note here, I would end up falling and gorging at one point. I mean, I am on a protein train right now and feel that I need to have a bite of food at some point throughout the day. So I drink a shake in the morning around 8 or so, then I have something small like a cheese stick or an egg, etc... around 10-1030. Then around 1230-1pm, I have another shake. Then around 3:00 I have another snack of protein.. and then later have my regular dinner. However, since I have recently started this, I notice I am not quiet as hungry and I have been eating less at dinner. Like half!! I LOVE that! I am getting all my protein in and water in between it all, as well as staying comfortable with eating and NOT over eating. For me liquid does not do it. Babyfood I am hearing is not the greatest idea, that is something to reconsider. 3.) You should not drink liquid 30 min before or after a meal. Your meal should last between 20-30 min. and anything after that is grazing. If you drink while eating, it can fill you and you will not get in all your protein. Also, someone here on the board mentioned that if you drink while you eat, it pushes the food through too quickly and you loose taking in some nutrients needed. 4.) Alcohol first of all is made with lots of sugar, not good! Secondly, beer is carbinated. Not good for the pouch just as soda is not. Stretches the pouch with the gases... that is not a wise thing to do. I hope this helps! Diet Pepsi three of four times a day (believe it or not, the regular Pepsi I find too sweet). Carbonated beverages disallowed? What to do? 2) I've been told to adjust my attitude from " live to eat " to " eat to live " . I've had some success in doing that by removing the " positive feedback " from eating - basically making the meal as bland as possible and turning the act of eating into a perfunctory exercise. What if I limited my diet to just protein drinks or maybe baby food (or its equivalent)? Would that be ill-advised? 3) I've been told that it should take 45 minutes to eat a meal that fills the pouch and that you should not drink liquids with the meal. Are there acceptable variances to this pattern? 4) I've been told no alcohol, including beer. Others say it's OK. Is it that it affects people differently or is there some health restriction? Thanks to all who reply. VeryJuniper --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Guest guest
Over the course of several months of reading posts, I have tried to decipher the many acronyms that are used, but not all of them. For some time I couldn't understand why so many of you had an SOB in your family, but eventually (several months), being of quick mind, I decided it meant Shortness of Breath. I hope I'm correct. Following are some I am too dull to figure out: 1. VATS & VATS surgery 2. HRCTS 3. NSIP vs IPF 4. SATS ( I think statistics but usually I see that as STATS, like in baseball) 5. PFTS 6. RLS 7. Inogen POC 8. CPAP 9. AI 10. RA 11. DX A final question: many of the posts I open have no message. I picked up that for some the message is limited to the subject line. Is the lack of a message a mistake in transmitting or am I missing something associated with opening the post? Guest guest
Jack, Hi, I'm K and I've been hanging around here for at least 5 months. My hubby has IPF and I've struggled over those acronyms as well, but slowly I've figured some of them out. I wasn't brave enough to ask what they were. I just read them like ----well you know----Greek. In your bravery, you asked and I learned a lot. I thought SOB was cry-cry-. I do use that word to tell people that I am crying. Even though that did not make sense it took a long time to figure out that it was short of breathe. You brave one you!
