MB and or anyone else who knows, Can you tell me what your PFT #"S are? Brown the research nurse talked to me today and she said that Don's PFT score was 38%. When she said that average was 80 to 120 I panicked. Doesn't that sound terribly low? He is sleeping a majority of the time any more. He stays in bed, some days, all day. He sleeps 10 to 12 hours at night. He doesn't have the strength to do much. Tonight he mowed for 2 hours, until he ran a wire into the tire, and then came right in and went to bed. said that they are

thinking that he has the auto immune component to his fibrosis which means he will need to go up on prednisone again - at least for a period of time- and he said "No". I do not know if 38 is a particularly low PFT score or not. He is also having trouble swallowing. He can't eat much without it sticking in his throat. He has lost another 5 #'s. Without knowing what number the nurse was talking about it's really difficult if not impossible to answer your questions. My DLCO which is the diffusing capacity of my lungs is 47. That number is sometimes used as an objective measure of overall lung function. Mine has remained at or about 47 since I was diagnosed two years ago.

It might be a good idea to ask more specific questions about what number she's talking about when she says "39%". And honestly it does sound as though Don is suffering from rather severe depression which given all that he's dealing with is a pretty normal response. Perhaps his current antidepressant is just not working for him. He may need a different one or a combination of meds to get him to a place where he cares again about fighting for his life.

You are in a very difficult position , trying to help someone who sometimes rejects that help. I hope you are getting support over in the caregivers group and also in your personal life. I keep you both in my prayers.

Thanks MB. I think what you said is the correct (what ever it is) and 38 sounds low to me. I told him this morning that he is going to take the other anti-depressant. I talked to both boys and they are behind me. I think they are going with us to the U of C. I was a mess last night. Yes, the other side of the board is taking nice care of me. When I get mad I whine, when I want to cry, I cry. This entire place is a safe haven for me. Thanks MB. I told from the U of C yesterday that I can't tell whether he is depressed or just THAT sick.
