Guest guest
I have not seen the show yet as I'm a few hours behind everyone else, but I'll watch it and email. You know, in my book DIET & HEART DISEASE, I briefly discuss Ornish and his claims. I reprint an advertisement from an airline magazine for Ornish's products which basically said that the low-fat diet component of his program is ineffective unless it is combined with lifestyle changes like meditation. In other words, the low-fat diet he recommends does dideleydick. For him to say to 8 million viewers that maragarine is better than butter is truly heinous. I wonder why Oprah doesn't have alternate thinkers on? She once had the Eades of PROTEIN POWER fame. Why not Sally or (gasp!) me?! Saturated fat, according to Ornish, is public enemy #1, with all other fats following closely behind. We cannot let the American people be duped any longer on such a public forum. Let's roll. Guest guest
Oprah is a wise enough woman to see the common sense in WAP and NT. Who knows it could become the diet that stops her roller coaster weight gain and loss. Then again she has sponsors to answer to just like all the media. She owns at least one company too and is respected. Wanita
Guest guest
> Oprah is a wise enough woman to see the common sense in WAP and NT. At the risk of sounding politically incorrect about something that has nothing to do with nutrition, Oprah is culturally white. That means all the common sense and wisdom have been sucked completely out of her. As a former VIC (vegetarian in college), I can definitely relate to how a lifetime of trite and heavily recycled magazine articles will suck the common sense out of anyone. In hindsight, my best years nutritionally speaking were the ones after graduating and before coming across WAP. I couldn't out-argue my veggie friends about meat being healthy, but deep down I knew that humans are healthier eating meat. Now that I know why, I can't argue with them unless I want to be really preachy too. I'm actually feeling slightly proud of myself for not preaching to my vegetarian friend that I saw for the first time since reading about WAP last week. Guest guest
Oprah has a link where you can suggest story ideas. Guest guest
Carma, This is a great idea! I looked at the page you refer us to below, and had an idea. Is there anyone who " has a story " about how WAP ideas and foods have made a turnaround in his / her health, and would be willing to " be on the show " ? A personal story might be even more attractive to the Oprah folks. We all can make our suggestions, but a personal story would be hard to pass up. For what it's worth... It got me thinking, and it would also be cool to have some farmers that produce grassfed meat and dairy come on and talk about how they take care of their animals and compare their health to those of animals in feedlots or battery cages. This is just my opinion, but I think that would probably best be left to another show. If you come at an issue from more than one angle, I think you tend to confuse people. Besides, I think the natural " hook " for the oprah demographic is going to be the straight-up health and fitness angle. If there were a good response to a first show with Sally, and Dr Byrnes, they might be open to subsequent shows that take a deeper look at specific aspects of it...like the farm issues. Guest guest
Is there anyone who " has a story " about how WAP ideas and foods have made a turnaround in his / her health, and would be willing to " be on the show " ? *** I think this is a great idea and totally support it. However, a small cautionary tale about the Oprah show: I suffer from a a chronic pain condition which is very underdiagnosed and about which the public in general knows very little about (vulvodynia/vulvar vestibulitis -- chronic vulvar pain) . There are wonderful online lists/sites about this condition and about two years ago many, many (over 100?) of us wrote in to Oprah with our (very sad and compelling!) stories. We didn't get anywhere -- she never really responded, let alone did a show on this topic which affects *lots* of women. Finally , she had those two sister gyns (names?) on and they mentioned vulvar pain in about two sentences and Oprah laughed about it! Funny, but Ann Landers just did a good column about the condition a few days ago. Again, I totally support writing in and trying to get Sally et al on the show.. maybe it will work. By the way, I wrote a letter to the radio host here in Portland who interviewed Dr. Swank and asked that he interview Sally. He said he is going to, and that he has had several requests to do so. He said he wrote to the WAP website. Is this going to work to get him an interview? Carolyn

Guest guest
Alec must be psychic because I was, yesterday, going to post a suggestion that all of us should write bad reviews of the most popular, but inaccurate, nutrition books out there. My pics: The Okinawan Program The Paleo Diet Natural Eating Milk: The Deadly Poison Diet For a New America We could also post positive reviews of those books which are closer to the truth like: Life Without Bread Nourishing Traditions Know Your Fats The Milk Book Just a thought.........
