Guest guest
> What do y'all use??? Is Sodium Laurel Sulfate ok in your toothpaste? > Sonja No. It is detergent (found in shampoo as well). Not good for gums or scalp. Weleda makes a line of toothpastes (health food store) without it. The best is the Marigold (fennel flavor). The Pink one can stain your teeth, and the Plant Gel one may not whiten well enough. Portland, OR
Guest guest
> Is Sodium Laurel Sulfate ok in your toothpaste? I stopped getting canker sores when I stopped using toothpaste with SLS. I have read that the SLS can thin out the " skin " in your mouth. I use Weleda " Salt Toothpaste with Baking Soda " . It looks like mud (because of herbal extracts?) - but it makes your mouth feel clean. -Dan
Guest guest
Sonja, Here's what I brush my teeth with, Ipsab Tooth Powder: http://members.aol.com/besharat/den3.htm I like that it has salt, baking soda, peppermint oil (for flavor), and, most especially, prickly ash bark, " a traditional Native American herb used to maintain healthy gums. " I remember some discussion on this list sometime last year about some other kind of bark and its effectiveness to heal gums (and teeth?). Once you get used to not using a gooy, sweet paste, this powder is really refreshing! My kids, however, are using Nature's Gate Cherry Gel, which has no fluoride. (I await anyone's comments on the usefulness of topical fluoride.) Hope that helps! Guest guest
> What is wrong with good old fashioned baking soda? > Shari A couple of holistic dentists I know say that dry baking soda scratches the teeth too much. Actually, according to the book " Key to Ultimate Health, " dry brushing (without toothpaste) removes 60% more plaque than wet brushing with toothpaste. I dry brush first, followed by wet brushing with a speck of toothpaste (with chalk in it) for gentle whitening. Portland, OR
