Guest guest
Shauna, I was right there with you a couple of weeks ago. Over the first two months after surgery I had a bad habit started of eating lots of crackers and even some chips. I was not eating large portions but when I looked at the whole day I was taking lots of carbs. I don't know if you live alone, I do so this was easy for me.....One night I just had enough and I wanted to start losing again, so I went thought the whole kitchen and I bagged up everything in there that had carbs, and tossed in the garbage can outside. It felt very cleansing and good to have the power to do that. For the last couple of weeks I have been on a 99.9% protein diet, almost like a protein train, but I'm eating foods instead of just shakes. Do you have it in you to get those cookies out of the house? Don't worry about what anybody says to you about it, there will be more cookies, you can get more some other day when your feeling strong again! Get those cookies and anything else your feeling weak about today, and dump them in the garbage outside your house. On bad days I know I wont be able to just say no, so I have to get that stuff out of the house. Come on Shauna, like you have said to me a number of time WE CAN DO THIS!.........RIGHT! Mike T My emotional eating is kicking in today and I don't know how to stop it. It is times like this I want to learn other behaviors. Eating those cookies made me feel worse, dumping and then emotionally beating myself up over it. It's raining out today, so that makes things worse haha. I mean I can't go out walking or anything. I just feel blah today. What do you guys do during times like these??
Guest guest
Hi Shauna, Sorry to hear that your having a rough day, Yesterday was mine. I have found that if I call my sister or best friend, take a nap or just sign in to the sit I feel a little better. Just reading what others have to ssay makes me feel like I'm not alone. Also I find that looking at before and after pictures is inspiring. I hop that your day goes better, Try not to be so hard on yourself ( I know easier said than done ) Remember each day is a new journey. Guest guest
You need to find a new distraction Shauna. How bout a puzzle to put together? Maybe some cross-stitch? I find that if I occupy my hands that helps a lot!!! Or do some cleaning!?! That is what I do when I get upset. I'm sure Tim wishes I was upset more! HAHA! And you always have us here to support you! Don't beat yourself up over the cookies. We all have our weak moments. You've at least realized you need help in controlling the situation. *HUGS* 380/344/160 Shauna Thalman wrote: > Hi Everyone, > > I really need some support today. Guest guest
Shauna, RETAIL THERAPY! When I get down like this, and all I can think about is food, I remove myself and do something fun. If its raining, which it does alot in Washington, then I go to the store and try on lots of clothes that wouldnt have fit me 75 pounds ago. That usually perks me up, and gives me that extra boost to say no to bad things. Keep your chin up! Guest guest
Shauna at times like this shopping is always good. Buy new clothes. If you want to be addicted to something make it clothes shopping or at least looking. Now that you are losing weight you can always buy that next smaller size. Remember why you are doing this. I am healthier, I am skinner- that cookie is going to make me either fat or sick- why I don't even want it. repeat until it sinks in. Good Luck I know easier said then done but keep the good work up and it will get easier. Retrain those thoughts. April Shauna Thalman wrote: Hi Everyone, I really need some support today. Guest guest
Shauna, I wish I could help you in some way, but being pre-op, I haven't had to go through this yet. I have tried in the past to avoid food when I can, and during times of sadness or frustration, I find that it often helps me a little to write everything down. Write letters to people who are bothering you, or journal or blog about other situations that may or may not be out of your control, and encourage youself to find ways to help you through them. You might read something inspiring - and I don't mean like Bible verses, but maybe take a look at some websites of people who have been successful with their WLS. Make yourself something healthy to eat - maybe a few something healthy to eats - and then choose which one you might enjoy now, and put the others away for later. Are you allowed to chew gum or mints after the surgery? I don't even know, but I know that a nice, strong minty gum or an Altoids mint usually curbs my appetite now for a little while. Whatever you are going through, I'm sorry it's causing you so much stress. I wish I could help you more! Guest guest
, I know a lot of people say chewing gum after surgery is not good because if you were to swallow it you could end up with a blockage, but I chew surgarless gum and haven't had any problems. I consciously spit it out every time I am finished with it. I chew it because sometimes I just feel the need for something and having gum keeps me from eating unhealthier items. Plus, if you don't have a toothbrush available after a protein shake, it helps with the bad breath that normally follows. in Virginia 299/250/150 surgery date: 3 May 2006 RE: Emotional Eating HELP! Guest guest
Great Ideas April! Give myself something to look forward to is always nice. Thank you everyone for your support today. I usually don't vent too much on here, but I wanted to address that I was emotionally eating and want to learn how to deal, you guys all gave some great ideas, I need to keep those in mind in the future. I need to start exercising or something at those times, but when you are depressed who wants to exercise? hahaha. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Shauna, I hope your day got better. I know this is going to sound bizzare, but when I get to that point, I get out this little fake cigarette that I have hidden in my desk. I make myself a cup of hazelnut flavored decaff coffee, sit in my office, and puff away on my fake cigarette. It helps with the hand to mouth thing we all love so much, doesn't hurt my body in any way, and is so ridiculous that it makes me smile. I quit smoking 3 years ago, now I've quit eating...what's left?? I simply MUST have my fake cigs from time to time! Hope this helps.
