Guest guest
Congratulations on the good night of sleep! Is there an over the counter one that works? Even if I can get a couple of nights of 7-8 hours with no wake-ups I would be happy. Cheri Re: Experiences with PS and Insomnia Please Hi Jen, I know how you feel! I've been like that since Xmax day. I am on HC cream waiting for temps to stabilize so I can take Armour again. I decided last night I couldn't stand another nite of this sleeping litely and waking every 2 hours with a six hour window so I took a sleeping pill: Dalmane 15mg. I just felt I had to and TG it worked! I took a bath and went to bed at 10pm. Last time I looked at the clock it was 10:45 and I didn't wake again until 7:10 am..Oh the joy of it!! I don't want to get hooked on sleepers but I will take one every few nights till I get more stable with Adrenals & Hypo..before I didn't want to in case I was masking what was going on with my body at night i.e reaction to the HC. Also have you tried Kava at all? Best Wishes Sara

Guest guest
How did you get the sleeping pills? By prescription? Just like you said, I'm concerned that sleeping on meds will mask whether the problem is solved or not. I would so love a good night's sleep... I haven't tried Kava. Don't know anything about it. What have you heard about it? I bought melatonin today. Cross your fingers for me! Thanks! Jen > > > Hi Jen, > > I know how you feel! I've been like that since Xmax day. Guest guest
Yes, prescription. it was one of the pluses of being hospitalised! They tried a few different ones on me before they found Dalmane worked..when I left the hospital I had a shopping bag of drugs..big box of xanax and dalmane..I think they were so glad to be rid of me.. Here's where you can read all about and get some top quality Kava: http://itsmysite.com/kava/ Several family members love it..I must try some tonite..its not addictive. I was taking 1 or 2 just to relax and stopped a couple weeks ago to see how I would be..you can take up to 6 for insomnia, muscle pain or relaxant..when I took the 1 or 2 even though I wasn't sleeping thru I didn't mind being awake as I was relaxed! If you decide to try some you'll have to experiment with amount..everyone is different..Been wondering about trying the melatonin..can't get it in Ireland so it will take a week to get it from the U.S. I heard it can take a while to start working but I may be wrong. If I lived close to you I would share some of my medicine cabinet so u could try! Best Wishes & good luck with the melatonin Jen Sara > > How did you get the sleeping pills? By prescription? Guest guest
Kava and Valerian did not do anything for me and Melatonin made me hyper. I ordered some lemon balm and a couple of other things so we will see if that works. Just wondering if there was any OTC that adrenal fatigued people had success with. Cheri Re: Experiences with PS and Insomnia Please Thanks Cherie, ould you try the Kava? I don't know of anything OTC..have heard of Valerian root but no experience of it Sara xx . Guest guest
I would not remember anymore just that it had a yellow label. I also remember reading that there were several health issues that Kava created or made worse. I believe it was that it can make depression worse and I don't need more of that. Additionally, it was supposed to be avoided if you have tremors, which I had at the time. I have also had a history of seizures which I still get every now and then. I think liver problems was also implicated. So, I think that one I will avoid but I might look into Valerian again. I think I still have some at home and maybe I didn't use it long enough. Cheri -----Original Message----- -Cherie, Sorry to hear the Kava didn't work for you. Can I ask where u bought it and how much you took?? There is much inferior kava out there! Love Sara . Guest guest
I have had trouble with sleep since childhood too but I think now it is due to a lifetime of adrenal issues based on my symptoms as a kid. I remember at age 4 already having the light sensitivity issue and in photos you can see my pupils dilated big even when bright light was shinning in them which tells me they could not stay constricted in the bright light like a normal person's would. Interestingly, you also see this in drug addicts. I saw old photos of actress Angelina Jolie recently, taken when she was in her heavy drug using days (she was a heroine addict for awhile) and her pupils were big on many photos even with bright lights. I compared that with more recent photos where her pupils now constrict in bright lights more. I would bet anything she is getting some kind of treatment for her adrenals. Adrenals problems are also common with alcoholics. I gave up drinking at age 19 when I started to have negative reactions to it and now I have a much better understanding why. That was also the age I had my wisdom teeth pulled and the openings left unstitched which I think caused cavitations and bacteria build up because my health really nose dived after that and I lost a lot of blood. I also had my first major adrenal crisis that year and a doctor thought I was bipolar after that. That was the start of my ongoing deteriorating health. Cheri -----Original Message----- I'd give anything to get a good night's sleep - a natural good night's sleep that is. I've been taking sleeping pills for 20 yrs... I've always had sleep problems - even as a child - I would wait until everyone in the house went to sleep and then read. Whatever is necessary to make one fall asleep - my body does not make it - I'm wondering now if the tumor on my pituitary is responsible for suppressing what you need to fall asleep.... Even on sleeping pills a good night for me is 4 hours and many nights I simple do not fall asleep at all - I just rest.. I'm tired....very, very tired... Guest guest
I find that most natural sleep remedies make my heart pound and/or make me hyper. It must be an adrenal thing? Guest guest
I've used Kava and it is good. I use valerian now and it works, too, but I think the Kava is better. Guest guest
this is just brain storming. melatonin is produced from serotonin in body. at earlier stages of my adrenal fatigue I was having vivid and excessive dreams which is sign of serotonin excess. (at lat stage I moved into no dreaming state).. so I am brain storming that melatonin may not be needed at high serotonin stages? do you have excessive dreaming? just thoughts.. i don't have any scientific data on this. I am thinking what you need is to regulate cortisol. Nil Re: Experiences with PS and Insomnia Please How funny about sharing medicine cabinets! As it happens, my drug store was selling Melatonin Buy-One-Get-One-Free, so I have a whole extra bottle and I'm not even sure it'll work! If it weren't for shipping times, I would totally mail it to you!

Guest guest
Interesting thought! You may have something there. My dreams are no more intense than they were before though so I can't say much about it. I hope I can get the cortisol in order and my sleep back to normal before long. Guest guest
Be careful with the melatonin - most of what they sell in stores is 3mg and that is a big dose - some people do well on as little as .5mg. I did not do well at all on 3mg - I believe that it was actually contributing to my insomnia. YMMV of course, but word to the wise. > > How did you get the sleeping pills? By prescription? Guest guest
I appreciate the warning; what I bought was the 3 mg! Guest guest
Melatonin, Tryptophan, Valerian root - none helped and the first two made it worse for me. I take a small dose of Klonopin (like Xanax) at night and it helps. Lunesta also works to help me get to sleep but it doesn't work for everyone and some people report that it leaves an awful taste in the mouth. I don't get that side-effect which has to be a first for me since I usually get every side-effect (probably thanks to lousy adrenals). Klonopin and Lunesta are both prescription only and the best way to get them is to see a shrink and tell him/her that you're anxious and can't sleep. I see mine a few times a year, talk to her for 30 minutes and get new scripts. I'm not recommending prescription drugs necessarily, but they do help some people, including me. And, yes, many of us are experiencing sleep issues. > > I find that most natural sleep remedies make my heart pound and/or make me hyper. It must be an adrenal thing? Guest guest
That is adrenal. But weak adrenals can cause thyroid issues too. Cheri Re: Re: Experiences with PS and Insomnia Please Do having sleeping problems and pupil dilation problems since childhood indicate weak adrenal problem or do these happen when one is hypo thyroid, too?.
