very dry and red skin on top of hands

My 9 year old has had a problem this winter with the top of her hands

becoming very red and and so dry that you can see some white dry skin. When

we put aloe vera from our plant on them, it stings.

Does anyone know why she may have this problem? This is the first winter it

has happened and she has lived her all of her life.

Joy,

Here is a shot in the dark with just the small amount of info

here. Generally speaking these type skin issues will be from one of

two most likely sources. A) Not enough fats (can be either sat or

unsat) or B) Poor fat metabolism and or assimilation. I'd need to

know some more info to comment further. If you have further
