Guest guest
Carol, Hi, I remember you used to drive with . I had a thought, is Dr Whitman still working in NY at that one hospital there? I know that a while back, he worked at a hospital in NYC I thought, or near NYC...could you see him there? If he is still working out of there....maybe you could call Ellen? I know what you mean about shock, I am still in shock as well. I still can't beleive I cannot pick up the phone and call her. Doubly worse, because the last we spoke she told me how well she was doing, she was doing great...and then, when I had not heard from her in a few weeks, I called and found out she had died. was a good woman. Take care, Debbie rheumatic Dr in NY or CT I used to see Dr Whitman in NJ for antibiotic tx. I went with a friend of mine who had MCTD. She died a few months ago from cancer. I'm still shocked. I cannot travel to NJ anymore-to drive there by myself is too long a ride. I was wondering if there were any drs in NY or CT that prescribe antibiotics? I live in Northern Westchester which is about 50 mins from NYC, although I prefer not to drive to the city, I would consider it. Any names of drs would be appreciated. I have been off the doxcycline for about 6 months and have definitely felt worse and caught more infections. A local rheumy refused to prescribe doxy as did my primary. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Carol E from NY

Guest guest
Thank you Sohelia. That was exactly the hospital I was thinking of re Dr. Whitman but could not remember the name of it. I would think Ellen at his Summit office could help with info and setting up appts. I did forget that Dr Whitman works in the city. If I can't find anyone closer to where I live, I will call Ellen to set up an appt. thanks for the list and for the great job you do here! Debbie, I had the same experience as you with 's death. I talked with her and she was feeling better. Then when I called several weeks later, told me that she had died two weeks ago. It still seems so unreal. I have watercolor paintings that she gave me-in my house and my office. And I will always remember our trips to Dr W and our IVIG's with Dr Kadar. She was a good woman. She encouraged to try the abx's and was so supportive of my going back to work. I hope she knows I miss her. I would have liked to say goodbye to her. Guest guest
Soheila, If you have the # for the HSS for Dr W, I'd appreciate it. I'm not sure if I'll travel down there yet, but at least if I decide to then I will have it on hand. developed cancer after battling with MCTD for many years. The cancer started in her lungs and then traveled to her bones. She was at my 50th bday party in Nov 2007 and it wqs shortly after that that she was dx with cancer. She had a love of life and fought so hard against the MCTD, as well as the cancer. Guest guest
Carol, yes, that sounds like exactly what happened. told me she had not wanted anyone to know....she assured me over the holidays that she was doing well, still getting treatment, etc....so I just checked in every couple weeks with her. I did not want to bother her when she was going thru chemo, etc....just wanted to let her know I was there for her, etc. I began getting worried when there was no answer at their house and in repeated calls, no response. Then told me she had died. said this was the way wanted to handle it, not telling anyone that she was not doing well at all. I too, really would have wanted to tell her how much she meant to me, how often her strength really boosted me, how I looked up to her as such a fighter. I knew you went with her to Dr W but I had no idea you did the IVIG iv's as well at Dr K. met me there at DR K when I went to see him. was awesome, truly and amazing spirt and woman. She will be missed. We had hoped to visit , as we normally had dinner with and when we went thru town this summer, but hubby was laid off a couple weeks ago....so no trip this summer. It does look like he will be working again though very soon...he has had 4 interviews and it looks good...I had hoped to see Dr W as usual this summer, but it will have to be next summer. I am getting concerned that he will retire at some point! YIKES! Definitely give Ellen a call, she can tell you where Dr W is and give you any info. I do adore Dr. Whitman. Of all the DRs I have seen since being dx with SD and RA...Dr W is the most knowledgable, takes the most time with me and has helped me the most.(And believe me, I have seen about 6 Drs on the AP list) was right years ago, she told me DR W would fight for me and he always has. Good Luck Carol, keep in touch, I hope you are still able to see Dr W....he is such a gem. Hugs, Debbie rheumatic Dr in NY or CT I used to see Dr Whitman in NJ for antibiotic tx. Guest guest
Hi kids, I am back from the Carribean and trying to catch up. Dr. Whitman works out of the " Hospital for Special Surgery " in NYC. It is on the East Side around the the 70's. He also sees patients at his office in New Jersey. I used to go to him until I went on the Marshall. Hope this helps. Who died? I am so sorry!
