Guest guest
Unfortunately, I don't live anywhere near you. I use Harry Speira in NYC, and he is really wonderful, because he has seen with his own eyes how well I have responded to the doxycycline and now minocycline. He never told me it would be chronic. He just doesn't know, so I stopped asking him about it. It's all pretty new, even to him, especially since I have shown that you can get Reactive Arthritis from a very different kind of infection. We really take it day by day. I think you are way ahead of the game, which is a good thing, because you are getting the condition under control so much more quickly than I did. I can't help but feel that you are so scared, but you should really keep a positive attitude-if you stay on the antibiotics (and acidophilus!), and really have reactive arthritis, which it sounds like you do have it, you will be fine. I thought I was dying. Seriously. Now I walk everyday, take care of my family, and am even thinking of going back to work. That is big. :) MG rheumatic Re: reiters syndrome > > Hello, My name is Brennen, and I just joined this site... I am baffled > as to what is happening with me... I got the inflammation under control with prednisone and then started 100mg twice per day Minocycline and weaned off Prednisone. I still am using the 200mg per day Minocycline and the nsaid Diclofenac once per day. Guest guest
Another thing you asked- my eyes were very blurry because I was suffering from pink eye(conjunctivitis), which is a common symptom of reactive arthritis, too. My eyes would be pasted shut in the morning, then red and it would last most of the day or all day. Now that I'm on the antibiotic, that symptom is practically gone. Guest guest
You are so on the right track. You will start feeling great soon. You just need to find a good doctor. And you have to be careful, because doctors have almost killed me a few times in my lifetime, and especially when you have " vague symptoms " -those that don't follow typical symptoms, like heart attacks, they will try their hardest to " diagnose you " , even if you don't have the symptoms of the illness. They can't handle not knowing and it is hard for them to say " I don't know what is wrong. " If you want me to call my rheumatologist to ask him if he could recommend someone in Nevada I could do that. Guest guest
Never take acidophilus with antibiotics. Wait 2-3 hours after taking the antibiotics to take your acidophlius. From: Mona Goldstein <spellers@...> Subject: Re: rheumatic Re: reiters syndrome rheumatic Date: Tuesday, November 4, 2008, 7:16 PM Brennan-make sure that you take acidophilus with the antibiotics, if you aren't already doing so. Otherwise, you will kill the normal flora in your intestines, which could be extremely painful. It happened to me. Guest guest
Hi Mona; I guess we have not met yet.I hardly get to the board anymore as I have recovered from SD and am sooooo busy that I just don't have time. When you take antibiotics they kill off all the good bugs as well as the bad ones. Therefore you take a good ENTERIC coated one . If it is not enteric coated it will disolve in your stomack where the acid will kill off 90%,it must disolve in the gut.I take 4 a day and each has 50million good bugs. Guest guest
I have seen you write a few comments in the last few months that I have been a member of the group. This group has helped me so much in getting on the right antibiotic path. About the acidophulus- the one I have from GNC is encapsulated. Does that mean automatically that it is protecting it from my stomach, because I don't see anything on the label that mentions it?What type and brand do you use? Guest guest
Mona, GNC does make one that is enteric coated and it is a solid ablong shape. It is called Super Acidophilus and has 10million CFU plus a probiotic blend but only has 4 strains of micoflora. There is a small sentence that says With patent pending Bio -tract delivery technology....that means enteric coated.Lucky I still had some in the fridge. The one I use the most is made in Oakville Ontario and has 50billion with 10 strains of micoflora. It is called Ultimate Flora and below it is in French, Flore Supreme ,it is made by Renew Life. > I have seen you write a few comments in the last few months that I > have been a member of the group. Mine hit very suddenly and severely and effected my hips, shoulders, knees, spinal column and some fingers. The arthritis hit long before the skin Psoriasis was obvious. I got the inflammation under control with prednisone and then started 100mg twice per day Minocycline and weaned off Prednisone. I still am using the 200mg per day Minocycline and the nsaid Diclofenac once per day. This regimen keeps me free of static pain and I can play golf again. vinny
Guest guest
Deb. I'm sorry I didn't read your last to posts. How long did u have rieters before u were treated? You just need to find a good doctor. And you have to be careful, because doctors have almost killed me a few times in my lifetime, and especially when you have " vague symptoms " -those that don't follow typical symptoms, like heart attacks, they will try their hardest to " diagnose you " , even if you don't have the symptoms of the illness. They can't handle not knowing and it is hard for them to say " I don't know what is wrong. Guest guest
Hey,Brennan. Hope you've been checking the group frequently, so that you get this message. I saw my rheumatologist today and asked him to recommend a rheumatologist for you in Las Vegas. He unfortunately said that as far as he knows, and he hates to generalize, there isn't anyone out by you who is worthy of a good recommendation. He highly recommended you going to Los Angeles. He said that the rheumatology department at UCLA is really good and you could find someone there. Good Luck! Guest guest
Hi,Brennan. I have been doing really well lately, except on days before we get cloudy or rainy weather. I actually was in disneyland last week and was on my feet for 18 hours a day, so that was amazing for me. My rheumy can't believe how well the antibiotics are working for me-much better than the TNF inhibitors that I was on a few years ago. Hope you respond well to the antibiotics. Good Luck. Guest guest
Hey kathy its brennen we talkt awhile bac abt reiters did u have any arthritis in the spine ? Were u ever dizzy ? Did u have eye problems? Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile rheumatic Re:reiters syndrome HI, I also used to be very active , I blamed slowing down to aging (and having a kid!) then the joint pain started and got so bad so quickly I was thinking id be in a walker in a few years!!! all my tests at the rhuematologist were negative so they said I had serio-negative rheumatoid arthritis... put me on bad drugs that made me unable to work! then i swithced DRs and tested positive for titers for chlamidia and Mycoplasma. started on minocycline and Im doing great now. I still get some stiffness in my right hand occasionally, but I just did a three hour horseback trail ride sunday! The new Dr said I have reactive arthritis from an infection. But I am doing good on the mino , been on it a year now. Kathy
