Guest guest
Amy and All, In regard to the discussion of Vit K and C etc. here is what I have taken since about 1995 when I was just beginning to fight the battle. Shopping at a local health food store, I purchase: Solaray Vitamin K 100 mcg one a day - for pigmentation PURE vitamin C ascorbic acid crystals - NOW brand - 1/2 tsp in water along with grapefruit seed extract - 8 drops - every night. - for pigmentation Molybedrum 150 mcg this is purchased as Biotics Mo-zyme Forte one a day - for curling hands B6 NOW brand 100 mg one a day - for curling hands. Hope this helps every one. In a message dated 3/10/2011 8:20:29 A.M. Mountain Standard Time, muttville@... writes: Anyone know the recommended dose of vit. K and C to prevent hyperpigmentation with minocycline? Also, I have noticed my eyes are dry. I am 6 months into AP (100mg once a day, MWF). Anyone else notice dry eyes? And while I thought I was clear of Raynaud's, this past weekend I was out in the cold rain for 20 minutes and my fingers turned tomato red and wouldn't function. A little disappointing to see I'm not over that symptom, but still, it was extreme cold/wet conditions so I'm not too surprised. Harald, thanks for keeping everyone posted on the best sources for antibiotics. I'm glad you are here. Guest guest
What you failed to add there, Dear Delores, is that neither you nor I really care about our color with scleroderma. All other complaints seem minor to us because we just wanted to remain alive. I didn't mean to make light of it. I know R/A people have it tough too just dealing with inflammation & pain. I also have R/A MCTD. I don't concern myself with the last two because they precribe an antibiotic for that as well. My main concern is not to go off remission from scleroderma, which I just did the past few months. Also my stress level rose sharply from Sept on through now. My mom passed on Oct 21. I had mixed feelings about that. It was a relief not to have to take care of her anymore. She was 96, incontinent, very disagreeable and attacked Mike several times biting him till he was purple. She had alzheimers. And yet I felt the loss. During that time, I neglected myself and ran out of Minocin. Settling her estate and getting back to my health meant seeing different doctors and then the fight to get back my minocin with the new insurance plan was terrible Christmas came and I indulged the kids and overdid it. Breathed a sigh of relief when they all left, had eye surgery which has not gone well. Blood tests and my feelings revealed that I was no longer in remission and back to square one. It had taken me 5 years to get into remission. The color of my skin is the least of my problems. So, I make light of it. I have learned to live in whatever color I turn. Vit c did help with the bluish black macules and the muddy grey look. I use an umbrella on sunny and rainy days. Since I wear mostly pants, my legs are not too bad, my trunk and covered body is still white, but I hate sleeves, so my arms are dark with white spots. If I were younger, it might bother me more, but I am old and don't care. I hope I didn't insult anyone with the purple hair comment. I was chuckling to myself because the kids today do their hair, purple, pink and all colors in between and wonder what I would look like if I painted my grey head a wild color. I was just having a little fun with myself and meant no insult to anyone.I had a rough night last night and needed to make myself laugh a bit. Sick humor, I suppose. I humbly apologize if I insulted anyone. Trying to lighten up a bit. Mike is busy cooking some veggies, meat and yams which I just found out are not nightshades. He knows I have had a rough day and is making dinner. What a sweetheart. I am still here because for the last 6 years, he has cared for me and supported my way. God Bless him and all of you. Guest guest
So far I am not on Abx, trying to find a doctor, and in Canada that means not using our great and wonderful national healthcare program. The few that I found do most of the testing that is not covered, so while the ABx itself may be covered by my private insurance, the road to get the Rx will be a long one, because the workups they do, while I am sure worthwhile, are expensive. I am however prone to pigmentation just from sun, as I am 1/2 Jewish and 1/2 central european (lighter skin on my dad's side), so I have fair skin, with a tendency to spot and freckle. I try to never tan my face, even though my body skin tans nicely. I have had some pigmentation problems on BCP's in the past. I am hoping that using the C and K (I take D +K now anyway) will solve the problem. Guest guest
Kinga, I am in Billings, Montana. Don't know where you are in Canada but you can get a doctor here to prescribe the antibiotics if you are just north of us and then get them filled in Canada! Of course, chances are you are far, far away. I began my treatment by flying to Iowa for RX because at that time, i could not get treated here.
