Guest guest
It is possible. All medications have side effects. I was on Plaquenil for one month prior to going on Minocin. At that time, my A/P doc said he preferred me to stop taking the plaquenil. So, I did and am glad. It took 5 years of antibiotic therapy, but I am in full remission now. I did get muscle ache relief for the short time I was on Plaquenil, but it was the Minocin that got me cured. Take care, Dolores From: refrivera <refrivera@...> Subject: rheumatic Anyone experiencing side effects on plaquenil? rheumatic Date: Sunday, March 28, 2010, 11:06 PM  I have been taking plaquenil for a few months now and I am wondering if anyone has experienced muscle weakness while on plaquenil? I am experiencing muscle weakness and tingling/numbness in my fingers. I am trying to figure out what is causing it. I have Polymiositis/ Interstitial Lung Disease/Chronic Lyme Disease. Guest guest
Hi . Like lind, I have RA. I have been on both plaquenil and minocin for 2 1/2 years now. The only side effect I had from the plaquenil was some stomach upset in the beginning -- and my dose was also very high then (400 mg/day). Now I only take a maintenance dose, 200 mg on Sat. & Sun. When I see my rheumy in May, I will probably cut the plaquenil back to just one day a week -- and see how that goes. I take the mino MWF. The only side effect I have from that is a blue right calf. It's not attractive, but I feel great. Three years ago I couldn't turn over in bed. Now I am almost completely healthy. I don't really have any muscle weakness. I am not as strong as I was before RA -- but I have been working my way back to a pretty healthy body. It's funny -- any ache or pain we get now we start analyzing -- is this RA? is it my meds? did I do something? is this just aging? Sometimes it's hard to know exactly. My biceps have been hurting these past few days. I did a lot of yoga over the weekend but don't really think that should have effected me. Then I remembered -- I was demonstrating how to do 'dips' off my office chair to my assistant -- I probably was working too hard trying to look strong for her. I don't think it's the plaquenil -- I think it was my ego! Good uck. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, thanks for sharing. That's wonderful you are feeling so well! How long did the minocin take to work? How did you first come to have RA? Just curious, since mine came on after the birth of my first child. I am hoping that fact doesn't mean that perhaps mine would not be responsive to AP... Guest guest
There is no question that there are is some relationship between hormones and RA -- I don't think it's unusual to get RA after preganancy. My RA surfaced when my hormones were whacked out from menopause. I was 52 when symptoms started -- none of which I recognized. Three years ago this past winter we were moving -- after over 20 years in one house. I was doing so much packing and hauling -- I boxed up and gave away over 27 boxes of books. When my shoulders started hurting, I thought I was just working too hard -- and had injured them both. Then my back hurt, my neck ... I went to an orthopedist and he treated it like an injury. It makes me crazy that -- with symmetric joint issues (a classic symptom of RA) -- he never suggested that I have any blood work. He did MRI's, x-rays -- and wanted me to do surgery and cortisone. I refused. I did physical therapy -- and then saw a physiatrist (natural mediine physician) who helped me recover. It wasn't until the following October that I started the mincocyline. It took about 3 months I think to really feel better. That's not long. Bonnie > > Hi Bonnie, thanks for sharing. That's wonderful you are feeling so well! > How long did the minocin take to work? Guest guest
Bonnie, please stay on the minocyclin if you have RA. I have RA and I am on minoxin and it really helps. two years ago I was so sick I could hardly walk and now I can walk at least a mile a day, do my house work, cook and shop. Maybe you can get the book The Road Back from Henry Scammell, it will give you lots  good info.  Eva  From: bonlucas <bonlucas@...> Subject: rheumatic Re: Anyone experiencing side effects on plaquenil? rheumatic Date: Friday, April 2, 2010, 9:31 AM  There is no question that there are is some relationship between hormones and RA -- I don't think it's unusual to get RA after preganancy.
