Hi Rich, Don, all

THanks for bringing this up, Rich. I've kind of had my hands full

lately, and have not been as attentive to the list as I should be.

re: surveys. What Rich is referring to is the " polls " option that

the YAHOO groups software provides. Folks can pose " questions " to

the entire list with this option, and the results are automatically

tabulated (by frequency and percentages), and then forwarded to the

list. We had some problems with " mischevious hackers " abusing that

option at one point, so we have it set up now so that only the list

owner and/or moderator (Karyn or I) have access to the " create a

poll " option.

I'd be glad to work with Don, or anyone else who has an interest in

setting up some polls. There are some limitations, however. First

of all, each question is considered to be a separate " poll " . Also,

each question must be " closed-ended " . As someone else explained,

this means that you must supply a choice list of answers for each

question from which users can choose. There is a limit of 25 choices

(possible answers) for each question, although you can allow the user

to choose more than 1 answer for each question ( " check all that

apply " type thing).

As Don has already suggested, it probably would be best to send ideas

for questions to him directly (i.e. " off-list " ), to avoid the problem

of too much list traffic. Don, once you have your survey questions

formulated, if it looks like they would work within the above

constraints (closed-ended, max of 25 choices per question), let me

know, and we can start setting them up as polls. If it works better

as an " open-ended " survey and you want to do it that way, we can

create a " survey questionnaire " and store it in the " files " section

of the web site, and then folks can down-load a copy of it from

there, fill it out, and e-mail it back to you directly. Either way,

we are looking forward to seeing what you come up with, and will help

in any way we can to facilitate this. Thanks for organizing this

worthwhile project.

You can contact me directly at tull@...

> ..... but Tull is the " Boss " ,

Ha! This really made my day Rich! I've been called lots of things

in my life, but this is the first time I've been referred to as

a " Boss " . *lol*

Cheers,

--Tull

I got a brilliant idea from an e-mail someone sent me to create a

survey to get the information I need. For anyone who does not know

me, my name is . I am a 22 year old dental assistant student

from Oregon. I am working on a paper for school and my topic is

orthognathic surgery. I am interested in this topic because of the

wonderful things that it can do for people. Instead of writing on

the surgery, I wanted to write on the people who have recieved an

orthognathic procedure. I know that people are not their procedure

and think it is crude to treat them as such. If anyone would like to

share some information with me, please do so. You can answer only

one of the following questions if that is all you are comfortable

with. I appreciate your time and openess and also all of the

response that I have recieved. Thank you again!!

jessica_sobolesky@...

1) What surgical procedure have you undergone or are you getiing

ready to undergo?

2.) What was done during this procedure?

3.) What kind of medications did you recieve and what effects did

they have on you?

4.) Why did you recieve your surgery?

5.) Did your insurance cover your surgery?

6.) What kind of post-op care did you have or will you have?

7.) On a pain scale of 1-10, what was it like 2 weeks after, 6 weeks

after, 3 months after?

8.) What is the best thing about having/getting your surgery done?

9.) What was the worst thing about getting your surgery done?

10.) If you have any additional information that you would like to

share, please feel free.

Thank you for your time. I have enjoyed hearing all of these

wonderful stories. It is great to see complete strangers open up and

support each other. Good luck to all of you!

Thank you again!!

I had Leforte (upper jaw) surgery on August 5th

>

> 2.) What was done during this procedure?

They cut the upper jaw and moved it down until my open bite closed.

>

> 3.) What kind of medications did you recieve and what effects did

> they have on you?

General anesthesia (no effects). Morphine (significant nausea),

Cleomysin (no effects), antiinflam (can't remember the name but it

made me horribly dizzy).

>

> 4.) Why did you recieve your surgery?

For a severe open bite. My back molars were the only teeth that

touched.

>

> 5.) Did your insurance cover your surgery?

Yes, but since my doc was 'out of network' it only payed a small

portion of what they considere to be 'usual and customary'. This

still left me with an $8,000.00 surgeon's fee.

>

> 6.) What kind of post-op care did you have or will you have?

I saw the doctor weekly until about 10 weeks postop, then I was

cleared to go back to the orthodontist. I'm currently being seen

monthly by the oral surgeon.

>

> 7.) On a pain scale of 1-10, what was it like 2 weeks after, 6

> after, 3 months after?

Two weeks after I was left only with achiness in the afternoons. I

had significant pain from the rubber bands, however. Six weeks after

no pain from the surgery, still pain from the bands. Three months

after, same story *sigh*.

>

> 9.) What was the worst thing about getting your surgery done?

The rubber banding. The swelling and numbness run a distant second.
