Guest guest
I'd like to hear experiences on Dr. Thierry Hertoghe. already told some of her experience on the topic about the book Safe Uses of Cortisol, but I'd like to hear more. I got an appointment to Dr. Hertoghe on Feb. 28th and I'm very curious. Several people said he follows Jeffries quite strictly, but I'm hoping he can give me some advise I wouldn't have thought of. I'm currently on 30mg of HC, I've been taking cortisone for a year and five months, and I'm completely unable to lower. I hope Dr. Hertoghe will be able to help me, if my adrenals can still be saved. Guest guest
Hi Annuka, I've been seeing Dr Hertoghe since 1999. He is a very good endo, open minded and well ahead of the other endos in term of knowledge and treatment. He will listen to you He does know the different way of treating the Adrenal glands, wether it be Jeffery's method or the traditional one 2 or 3 doses of HC/day, or prescribing natural or synthetic cortisone. He will prescribe the treatment that best suits you. He will take a global hormonal approach and rebalance all of your hormones that need to be corrected, as rarely the adrenals are out of whack on their own. He is a fifth generation endo, one of the top one in Europe. he (he told me) recognised in himself early symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue and he is therefore taking HC as well as growth Hormone. He is more or less following Dr Teitelbaum's hormonal protocol; I found for the sleep issue (at least in my case) he wasn't so good. He doesn't have a weight issue (he is very slim), so again I found when it came to deal with my insulin resistance he wasn't as knowlegdeable as with the hormones (yes the theoratical knowledge is there but he doesn't have practical experience first hand like with the adrenal fatigue, if u see what I mean) He is really good at making a diagnostic by looking at you, your body...; he doesnt just rely on test Thanks to him I got my life back, well sort of I am only working part time as i've got the worst job you could have with this illness (longhaul flightattendant); I know if it hadn't been for my job I would have 90% recovered a long time ago, but instead I have ebbs and lows. Still I amphysically active and that's really good when just walking a flight of stairs to use the bathroom (b4 seeing him) was all I could achieve in any given day. have a look at his book the " Hormone Solution " you might learn a few things. Having said that the curse of this illness is u can't rely on any doctor, there are still things they don't know and u have to keep doing your homework; That's where I take the opportunity to thank Val for this site that tremenduously helped me understanding the thryroid dump, amongst other things. I hope this is of some help to you marc --------------------------------- Yahoo! Answers - Get better answers from someone who knows. Tryit now. Guest guest
Hi Marc! I forgot to thank you for yout thorough reply. It's nice to hear experiences before seeing a doctor. There's a problem, though; I didn't realize just how expensive this would turn out to be. I took this bit from an old post in the NTH-list: " The appointment will take 1 1/2 > hours and will cost 175 euros " This was two years ago. My appointment is for 1h15min and the cost now is 280 euros!! How can a shorter appointment possibly be so much more now? The other problem is, that they wanted me to take a blood sample and a 24 hour urine test with me when I go and then make an appointment for a follow-up in one month. I told them I can't fly to Belgium for the appointment every time. They're now trying to figure out a way for me to take the tests beforehand and find a _2 1/2 hour_ appointment for me for the same week when I was going in the first place. You can imagine that a double appointment costs double as well, and that's 560 euros for one appointment!!! Plus the tests and the flights, and possible accommodation, of course. Is there any point to this? Spending 1000 euros on one doctor's appointment? I'll probably have to go to Belgium for a follow-up anyway, easily doubling the cost (I have to be prepared for it anyway). I really want to see dr. Hertoghe, I'm pretty sure he can help with the fact that I'm starting to feel worse again. But the fact is that I'm already living on a loan as it is (I'm a student). What would you guys do?
