I'm sure that I'm mag deficient since most of us are. My doc said

that I should try to find a magnesium glycinate supplement as it is

the best absorbed and easiest on the GI. Does anyone have any

experience with this form of mag supplement and/or a recommended brand

or source?

Thanks,

Is glycinate better than the citrate?

:)

Taurate also has calming effect so that is why i prefer it. I also used

glycinate but i am more comfortable with taurate form.

you may also search for chloride form. It is especially helpful if you have

digestive problems and will be cheaper if you find it in bulk form.

Tina I deleted my post about the Citrate as I just read Citrate is

good too. I was trying to go off my memory I'd read about three years

Mark,

Thanks so much for looking it up. You have a lot of integrity.

I had just found the Carlson lab stuff. So you can order it from

Vitacost? I need to find a good powdered B-5 too. While I'm at it,

does anyone have a favorite of that that they get from Vitacost?

Assuming that taurate and taurinate are the same thing? Vitacost has

this one -

>>Your post prompted me to research the Taurate form and I just read

that both Mag. and Taurine each have calming effects and thus

compliment one another. I'm going to give it a try when mine runs out

as I suffer from insomnia.

makes a 400 mg mag taurate and there have been times when I've

taken as much as 1200 and it's worked to stop pounding heart and I think

it's good for sleep. Dr. Norman Shealy recommends this form.

My nutritionist has me on magnesium glycinate, Pure Encapsulations brand.

Magnesium oil

is also very good to use.

Thanks Linn. Was ready to pull the trigger on a mag glycinate supp but

now I'm wondering about the mag/taurate supps. I could use the

calming properties of both, but easy on the GI is very important to me

too. Have you tolerated it well?

Yes, I like it a lot, I used to take mag citrate, but like the glycinate much

better.

Re: Mag supplements

I think it's the same thing as I copied this from the back of one brand:

Magnesium (as magnesium taurinate) 250 mg

L-Taurine (as magnesium taurinate) 2,672 mg

As a long term sufferer of depression I went to this site, and it is

not very good. in fact it is dangerous and can slow down folks and

even derail them until suicide is attempted, from getting real help.

The idea that depression is caused only by magnesium deficiency is a

false one. I have tried that and many other natural remedies for years

before realizing I needed medication to treat it. And I wish I could

go back in time and tell my younger self that all those decades of

incredible suffering and insomnia and migraines from sleep loss and

putting my family and friends (the few I had), through Hell was not

necessary. Medication could have eased my suffering and made me

comfortable to live with instead of the monster I was and still am

sometimes. I was being steered down the wrong path by false

information such as this website. If I take too much magnesium it

makes it impossible for me to sleep. Adding calcium helps but there is

a limit quickly reached how much of either ceases to help and becomes

harmful. Too much of a good thing ceases to be a good thing, and by

itself minerals are not the answer. How I wish it was! Because I would

have been feeling better as a teenager when I first tried magnesium

and not having to wait until my thirties when I first went on

medication for it, to finally start feeling better. I was so gung ho

against medication for decades because of false information like this!

It is such a tragedy this kind of lies are still being told and

harming people.

Has anyone here used the Magnesium Oil? It is used on the skin and is

very well absorbed. I found out about it on the Iodine board. They

say the best place to get it is ancientminerals.com

I have used it some, and now this week more consistantly. The first

time I used it, I slept 9 hours straight!!

Yes, I use the magnesium oil from Ancient Minerals, and it works great for me. I

can't take much magnesium orally as it causes me diarrhea, so I get most of my

magnesium from the oil spray, and I am so glad I found it because now I am able

to supply my body with the magnesium it needs without the bowel problems :) One

bottle has lasted me well over a month, well worth the cost.
