Guest guest
Most definetly. There is no specific test for JRA. It is based on lab results, joint status, symptoms, etc. So yes, it can still be JRA. A rheumatologist is the best person to go see to make the correct diagnosis. I hope you get some answers so you can live life to the fullest regardless of diagnosis. e, mom to joe 19 poly + <eileenprince@...> wrote: Last week, I went to the doctor to test for this. For a start, I suggest you read " The New Arthritis Breakthrough by Henry Scammell, which includes the original book by Dr. McPherson Brown titled " The Road Back - Rheumatoid Arthritis, Its Cause and Treatment " Dr. Brown did treat children, although there are no stories in the book of him doing so. I have a picture somewhere in my files of him with a small child he was treating and her mother. Heidi's story is on our web page. She was treated by Dr. Mercola. Once you've read the book, then visit www.rheumatic.org and read the material on that site - specifically the FAQ. This group is here to offer information, encouragement and support should you decide on this therapy for your son. Ethel
Guest guest
Hello, my name is Angie and I'm new here. I have a 14-year old daughter with symptoms of RA, I think. She has pain all over, and all her joints hurt, but no swelling or redness. Her muscles ache also, and her joints " pop " out of socket a lot. (I have fibro myself.) We're under tons of stress and don't know what to do. We've been on too many doctor visits and still don't know if she has Fibro, CFS or RA. We can't get in to see a pediatric rheumatologist until April. Any advice?

Guest guest
Hello Angie, I have Polymyalagia Rheumatica which has symptoms similar to what you describe with your 14 yr. old daughter. My family Dr. diagnosed me from symptoms and a high sed rate test. My joints aren't swollen, red or deformed, but all the muscles around them hurt like heck. For the first almost 5 years I had great success with Antibiotic Therapy. At the beginning I had IV infusions for 5 days, 2x/da and then was on oral Minocycline, but after 5 yrs. my face started turning black and blotchy, a reaction some get to long term Minocycline use. I've been on 2 other antibiotics since, but neither seem to be doing the job, so I'm talking to my Dr., Dr. Sinnott in Ida Grove, Iowa, about what to do next. The belief behind Antibiotic Therapy is that bacteria, Mycoplasma, remain in the body after an infection and under the right circumstances strike a person later, either in their eyes, joints, skin or with R.A., lupus, scleroderma, etc. and that normal drugs given, like Methotrexate only treat the symptoms while the disease becomes more established. Read all you can on http://rheumatic.org/ and find/read website on Road Back Foundation or Dr. McPherson Brown (deceased) who advanced Antibiotic Therapy. If you are familiar with Dr. Mercola's website/newsletters, he also advocates for Antibiotic Therapy for rheumatic diseases (Chicago area). In the meantime, take her to your family doctor. your daughter is obviously suffering from inflammation, so an anti-inflammation diet might help, or use of anti-inflammatories like ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, hot peppers...might help. Cut out refined foods, esp. sugars, transfats and fatty foods. lots of veggies and fruits, nuts. see if that helps, but see a Dr. asap, after you learn about Antibiotic Therapy. Guest guest
Angie: I have been in you shoes and I know how stressful this is. My daughter came down with rheumatic disease symptoms when she was 15. She was diagnosed with systemic scleroderma at age 16. Her symptoms were not the same as your daughter's. had very swollen and contracted fingers, severe raynauds (a vascular condition where you loose circulation in your extremities. She was very fatigued and began having issues with her breathing. We too had to wait many months to get in to see a Ped Rheumy. I actually paid out of pocket to get to see a Rheumy sooner to get the proper testing started. I was with an HMO at the time. While you are waiting, I think there is much to learn about the various theories as to the cause and thus the proper treatment for rheumatic disease. It is highly recommended that you read the book, The New Arthritis Break Through, By Henry Scammell, that will provide you with the information you need to determine whether the antibiotic protocol (AP) is the treatment you want for your daughter. My daughter started AP soon after her diagnosis and she recovered quickly. If you read about AP and decide that you want to do this treatment before April, head to your closest(quickest) PCP or dermatologist and ask for an RX for Minocin, they prescribe this freely for teens her age with acne so it should not be too difficult to convince your doc to write the RX while you wait for April. Also, as you are considering various potential diagnoses, has she (and you) been tested for Lyme through one of the more accurate labs (Igenex)? Just a thought! Guest guest
Hi, Angie. I was having blurry vision when I first was diagnosed with RA, which, by the way, has since cleared...I felt the same way as your daughter. It may be linked to RA, or Sygroen's Syndrome, which is related to RA sometimes. From what I understand, dry eye can cause it...so eyedrops helped. I am on i Minocycline, but also fish oil, and a gluten free and dairy free diet. I take natural products, such as fish oil and Metagenics UltraInflamex, vitamin d, etc. All of this helped my eyes, and my hands, which still get inflamed, but better than when I first fell over a year ago which triggered the situation, or awakened it my system. Hope this helps, and I am sure she will be helped. This group is very informed and helpful in proactive ways. Angie, you can call and talk to him on the phone: 712-364-3302. I'm homebound and need new hips, so haven't traveled to see him (only 5 hrs away) He has been so helpful to be when I call him. He never asks for $, but I do send him a small check. Get some background on AP, and if it feels right, give him a call. He (along with this group) gives me HOPE. sally rheumatic JRA? I visited a cousin in Danville several years ago and passed an acupuncture and holistic clinic on one of the main roads; does Rt 40 sound right? I couldn't find any in VA down your way so I thought this might help. There may be a couple in Richmond and one in Norfolk but I think they are further away for you then NC. Guest guest
Hi Bev, I'm in Fairfield, Iowa. Where are you? doc Sinnott has been such a great help to me over phone, but I've not seen him yet. He's working with my local doc (who is learning about AP) to start home care to come and do 5 days IV (twice day). Hopefully will start this week. I've been on AP 7 months, but my first IV's. I know some other people in Fairfied are doing home IV's for AP, but don't know who they are. Would be nice to know so that we can support each other and share info.....or rides to see doc S. Sally Re: rheumatic JRA? Guest guest
I'm outside of Anamosa, IA. Dr. Sinnott is in Ida Grove, IA. I went there in the beginning and had the IV treatment and then did fine on Minocycline for 4+ years, but then got hyper-pigmentation. other antibiotics haven't worked and I'll probably have to go back out to Ida Grove. It gets complicated and expensive because we have to stay in a motel and eat all meals out, plus board our big dog out and get someone to feed our house cats. not to mention gas or other expenses to get there and back. but if it will do the trick, I'll do it again. how did you find a local Dr. to work with Dr. Sinnott? I've asked my family Dr., he says he doesn't believe in it. So far I haven't heard of anyone around here who would do it. Drs. can't share info about their patients because of privacy laws, you'd just have to put an ad in the paper or let others know you're looking for other AP patients. Guest guest
Hello, Angie: I do not have much faith that 1) You have fibromyalgia or 2) Your daughter has JRA. I would more believe that You both have AS; Sjogren's (-like) Syndrome is common in AS. If HLA DR1 or DR4, JRA is possible but better to test for HLA B27 and not the serological (too many false negatives), but the Fc or ELISA methods should be used. Best to avoid all rheumatologists! Go to Mercola site and begin the dietary changes that will help long before April, I hope. But stay clear of starches for now to see how it goes and sometimes dairy could complicate this, so limit to hard cheeses. And I hope You will find a good RBF physician and this do in combination with diet. HEALTH, PS: Hey, Bleu! Good to see Ya. I'm back in Philippines where the mangoes are not starchy. How is France treating You? ________________________________ >> >> ------------------------------------ >> >> To unsubscribe, email: rheumatic-unsubscribe@...! >> Groups Links >> >>

Guest guest
Angie, have your daughter also checked for Sjoegren's syndrome, I have a little of that and once in a while my eyes get blurry, doctor told me to get the gentletears from the drugstore. The drops seem to help. the Sjoergrens makes your eyes dry and causes a blur. Eva >> >>> Hello, my name is Angie and I'm new here. >>> >>> I have a 14-year old daughter with symptoms of RA, I think. Guest guest
Hi, Angie: AS=Ankylosing Spondylitis see www.kickas.org These are autoimmune diseases that are controlled by Outer surface proteins (Osp); what we call self/non-self interactions. When our bodies begin to attack themselves it is because a portion of our immune systems mis-recognizes bits of our Osp. These are genetic and in tissue typing (for transplant), like blood type they are known as MHC (Major Histocompatibility Complexes). The names are rather contrived, but there is a class HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen and an alpha numeric designator after this: A, B, C, D -xx, typically. The tests for HLA B27 are not very accurate, I am afraid, but if done at a good transplant hospital lab it should be a full work up (there are usually 24; 12 pair one dozen from father and the same from mother) and there could be better genetic counseling perhaps--but they do not know everything. Me, either, but I have been dealing with AS successfully for over 12 years now, based upon Professor Ebringer's work and in retrospect the physicians did me much more harm than good! I hope You and Your daughter can avoid these traps but You are doing the right thing getting on the internet and learning more early. Well, in that time I have too often seen misdiagnoses of fibromyalgia for AS (because 'women don't get AS') and JRA was usually JAS which is Pre-AS and very treatable. I hope You will check out KickAS.org and look at Ebringer's technical papers; these are not too daunting, with the help of google. And according to Ebringer although it is possible for younger people to get RA, it is very rare. This is a condition that develops usually from UTI first and the germ in RA is Proteus mirabilis opposed with AS and the germ Klebsiella pneumoniae. He had to find a way to differentiate these two diseases in their early stages and in so doing found the cause of RA, also. Blessings of HEALTH to You and daughter, ________________________________ From: Angie Vipperman <avipp1@...> rheumatic Sent: Wed, February 23, 2011 11:30:02 AM Subject: Re: rheumatic JRA? Guest guest
Hi Bev, a new lady doc came to Fairfield, and I liked her picture in the paper and wanted her to be my MD (I haven't had one for years, let along past 4 years with RA) My apt with her was so so so good, her caring, her openess and wanting to have me well. She had not heard of AP but said she would research it and talk to doc S., which she did. Whether or not a dr. believes in it, the proof is in the research and speaking with someone like doc S. Together they decided for me to do my lst IVs at home. She's done all blood work for RA (I was very low on vit D) but she says (for right now) her being new here and didn't think AP or IVs at the clinic would be approved by her colleges (good ole boys group) So I'll keep her posted on IV's and then set apt to see her again. At least the " AP seed " has been planted and she wants her patients well, and did say that RA drugs are too toxic. She also said since she saw me, another new patient has come and asked about AP. I wonder if Doc S. has anyone trained and will take his place with AP when S. retires?? I do hope to meet Doc S someday and journey to " The Road to Ida Grove " Best to you in seeing Dr. S., and getting help, answers, and good health! Sally Re: rheumatic JRA? I'm outside of Anamosa, IA. Thank you, El. It's Highway 41, actually, and I live right off 41. I know the clinic you're speaking of, Dr. Eggleston, who does acupuncture and holistic work. I'd never even thought about him. Hi Angie, Welcome to this group. I visited a cousin in Danville several years ago and passed an acupuncture and holistic clinic on one of the main roads; does Rt 40 sound right? You may want to visit the practice to see if anyone there can help your daughter with an Rx for Minocin etc. If that won't work for you, I've provided a list of AP-practicing MDs in North Carolina. I couldn't find any in VA down your way so I thought this might help. There may be a couple in Richmond and one in Norfolk but I think they are further away for you then NC. If you want the names in VA let me know. El NORTH CAROLINA R. Biddle, M.D. (IM - 1989) Asheville Integrative Medicine 239 S. Sally, We live in Danville, VA, bordering NC. We are a small city with bad health care. Duke Hospital is where we'll be going in April. I wasn't able to get her in any earlier, and the family doctor is inadequate in getting us an earlier appointment anywhere else. In fact, I was the one who secured this appointment myself. As I said, health care in this city leaves a lot to be desired. Hello Angie, you've come to a very helpful, knowledgable group. Where do you live and perhaps there is an AP doc close to you. How so so sad to hear of your daughters symtoms at such a young age. I hope you get some good advice and certainly not wait until April. These diseases are stressfull to all of us, which doesn't help the body heal. This group gives me hope, I wish that for you and your daughter also. Sally rheumatic JRA? Hello, my name is Angie and I'm new here. I have a 14-year old daughter with symptoms of RA, I think. She has pain all over, and all her joints hurt, but no swelling or redness. Her muscles ache also, and her joints " pop " out of socket a lot. (I have fibro myself.) We're under tons of stress and don't know what to do. We've been on too many doctor visits and still don't know if she has Fibro, CFS or RA. We can't get in to see a pediatric rheumatologist until April. Any advice?
