We ran PCR for mycoplasma antigen, and antibodies for mycoplasma, antibodies for chlamydia (2 types) and ASO for strep. It cost roughly $430?? plus Fed Ex overnight shipping. I don't think my MD would've given me the prescription for the Doxy without the TARCI test results. It's my understanding that one can test negative for antibodies to mycoplasma, but test positive for mycoplasma antigen by PCR. That is, the mycoplasma are there, but the body hasn't produced enough antibodies against them yet. My MD wasn't so sure about doing the PCR, but I'm glad we did, at the baseline test, before starting antibiotics (PCR has to be done when NOT on antibiotics). Although mycoplasma and chlamydia will both respond to a tetracycline antibiotic, strep needs an antibiotic in the penicillin family. If one is positive to strep and not treating it, progress on AP can be inhibited. HTH,
