Guest guest
How do you measure 1/8 tsp. with one of those medicine syringes? I could only find syringes with 1 tsp., 1.5 tsp. or 2 tsp. measurements and sometimes I need to take a dose of HC that equals 1/16 tsp or 1/8 tsp. (1/8 tsp. = 5 mgs., 1/16 tsp. = 2.5 mgs). One other question-- did anyone have problems transitioning over to the cream from HC pills? Thanks,
Guest guest
I use a very simple conversion of .1 ml = 1 mg HC. I just use all even numbers to make dosing easier, since my syringe is marked off in .2 ml increments. So I dose .8 ml, .6 ml, .4 ml, and .2 ml. This equates to 4 notches on the syringe, then 3, 2, and 1. It also adds up to 2 ml, which equals 20 mg. This takes into account that the cream is more potent than the pill form, since you don't lose any to digestion. The stomachache disappeared the minute I switched over, and I switched directly from Isocort, counting each pill as .2 ml or 1 notch. Guest guest
The syringe I have is for 1 tsp, but has markings in 1/4 tsp. Each 1/4 tsp. segment has 6 sections. so for 1/8 tsp. I use 3 sections. I haven't had to go down to 1/16 though. To do that I just take it orally with a pill. Cherie > How do you measure 1/8 tsp. with one of those medicine syringes? Guest guest
I found 1/8 tsp at WalMart. I keep it in my purse. I also keep a small tube of 1% HC cream AND a small tube of .5% HC cream. That way, if I want 5 mgs cream I use the 1% cream and if I want 2.5 mg cream I use the .5% cream. At home I use my little scale which weighs as low as .1 of a gram. http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD & ProdID=213 Delores For you HC cream users... question.. > How do you measure 1/8 tsp. with one of those medicine syringes? Guest guest
Has anyone tried gel? Seems like it would rub in and maybe absorb even easier than cream. Walgreen one with these ingredients: Active Ingredients Hydrocortisone 1% Ingredients Benzethonium Chloride , Benzophenone 4 , Hypromellose , Menthol , Peppermint Oil , Polysorbate 20 , Propylene Glycol , Purified Water , SD Alcohol 40-B 20% by Weight , Sodium Gluconate , Sodium Metabisulfite http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=100949 & id=prod4464. Guest guest
Don't know about all the ingredients but I can tell you the metabisulfite is a big no-no for me. Causes allergic reactions and asthma in some. The menthol and peppermint oil will cool your skin down, like Ben-Gay. You really should try the Wal-Mart Equate brand. They sell it in big 2 oz tubes, and I swear it rubs in in 10 seconds! Barb " jasrich " wrote: > > Has anyone tried gel? Seems like it would rub in and maybe absorb even > easier than cream. Guest guest
I'd worry about the benzathonium chloride, and the benzophenone (didn't research them though) and menthol and peppermint oil can be skin irritants for some. And I think the SD alcohol can be very drying, if memory serves. If the gel has the odor of menthol/peppermint, it would bother ME. If you try it, please post and let us know how it works. sol jasrich wrote: > Has anyone tried gel? > > Active Ingredients > Hydrocortisone 1% > > Ingredients > Benzethonium Chloride , Benzophenone 4 , Hypromellose , Menthol , > Peppermint Oil , Polysorbate 20 , Propylene Glycol , Purified Water , > SD Alcohol 40-B 20% by Weight , Sodium Gluconate , Sodium Metabisulfite > > http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=100949 & id=prod4464. >
Guest guest
Does it have the mineral oil and other stuff that we're trying to avoid? Mine doesn't take more than 10 secs to rub in either unless I'm rubbing in a whole 10mg or more worth. I'm actually still just using it at night which is a small dose right now - only 2.5mg or 2.1gms on my scale. I'm tolerating the other 37.5mg in pill form OK - maybe b/c the GI is improving as I get closer to an effective dose for me and b/c of all of the support I'm giving my GI, e.g., the probiotics, aloe vera juice, etc. I can't say that the GI wouldn't be even better if I wasn't putting the pills down there though. More to think about. I had resolved to stick with the doses and schedules that I'm on for at least a week this time to give my body time to adjust since I have rarely done that so I think that I will, other than finding a different cream for night. This schedule is, however, waking me up at 5:45AM now although not as hard-core as before so with no hunger and I can evetually fall back to sleep but it's usually not long before I have to get up so I'm not getting enough. Starting my reduced work-weeks this coming week so I can sleep on Monday AM too. > > Don't know about all the ingredients but I can tell you the > metabisulfite is a big no-no for me. Guest guest
I got the Corticool gel from Walgreens. But, the inactive ingredients showed: hypromellose, menthol, polyoxyl castor oil, propylene glycol, purified water, SD alcohol, Anything funky about those ingredients? It absorbed MUCH easier and smelled better than the Equate HC Cream from WalMart. Pamela jasrich wrote: Has anyone tried gel? Seems like it would rub in and maybe absorb even easier than cream. Guest guest
I found ointment today at Rite-Aid with only aloe extract and white petrolatum as inactive ingredients. Here's a site that lists many common chemicals and how they hurt our bodies: http://www.health-report.co.uk/ingredients-directory.htm I just looked up mineral oil b/c Cheri pointed it out to me....turns out its a byproduct of that nasty fuel we put in our cars! I don't care if it has been processed, I am not putting gasoline on my skin! Also, the Corticool product is $7 a tube...but after reading about the ingredients i'd rather pay $7 than my cheep toxic mineral oil for $2. http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=100949 & id=prod4464 Tasia
