Guest guest
Hi lind. My heart goes out to your friend, I know the pain she feels, as I have been there myself. I was on both MTX injections weekly and Pred 65mg per day. My GP and I set a plan in motion, that I would continue both of them, plus introduce 200mg daily of Minomycin. The next step was to slowly reduce pred, and swap the MTX injections to tablets. Slowly reducing the doses weekly, and having regular blood tests every week to monitor ESR and CRP. After about four months on this treatment, we had reduced both of the drugs down. I was finally starting to see some results, the pain was less, my blood levels where dropping and my GP was just as excited as me. I went to 100mg Minocin daily, plus 5 mg pred and MTX 12mg for about another three months. And it was nothing short of a miracle the change in me. The side effects I got from those toxic drugs MTX and Pred also reduced. My health was turning around, life is worth living again. To-day I am in remission, do not take any MTX or Pred, only take 100mg Monday,Wednesday, and Friday and no other drugs. I did not get any side effects from taking minomycon. Hope this helps your friend, tell her most of all have " patience's " as AP treatment works for almost everyone. Wishing her a speedy recovery. Regards Gwen rheumatic Gwen's story & MTX Hi Gwen & others who've used methotrexate I have a friend (who doesn't have a computer) who's been on MTX and prednisone for about 4 years - MTX 25mg weekly and pred 5mg a day. She's pretty ill all the time with shingles and viruses etc and is interested in the AP but is too afraid to go off the MTX because of the pain. She's supporting her disabled daughter and grandson so can't be disabled physically herself. It sounded from your story that you started AP while still taking MTX and it worked so you could go off it. Could you tell me how you did that so I can make suggestions to my friend. I've also read that it's not possible for the antibiotics to work while still on MTX but that doesn't seem to be true in your case. I hope someone can help with suggestions. Thanks a lot Ros (AP 18 mths)
