Guest guest
My insomnia while on prednisone was awful! I took ambien for a while. My sleep went back to normal when I tapered back. ---------- Sent from the Cingular network using Mobile Email rheumatic Insomnia on prednisone My wife has been on 35mg (we just dropped it from 40 mg) for about three months. Insomnia is really bad. Any suggestions or ideas as to some relief? Rick
Guest guest
Did the insomnia begin because of lowering prednisone dose? You could see if phosphatidyl serine helps. It's a type of fatty acid, to be taken at night to lower cortisol levels. I guess this doesn't make sense though, because she her prescription is a synthetic cortisol. Guest guest
The only thing that helped me was Ambien....yes, hated to take yet another drug but day after day of no sleep is truly torture. Even with Ambien I could only get a 2 or 3 hours a night. Best of luck. Guest guest
Hi. I get real bad " butt " pains at night, which prevent me from sleeping. I have been taking trazodone(by prescription) for a couple of years. I haven't had any side effects and it works really well for me. Guest guest
I don't mean to pry about such a thing, but I get them too. Are they caused by Pred? I never had them before my RA diagnosis. I'm on and off Pred (max 10 mg usually) sprodically. Marina > > Hi. I get real bad " butt " pains at night, which prevent me from sleeping. Guest guest
No Amy, it started almost immediatly after she started the prednisone. That is why we are starting to cut back on it gradually now. Rick > > > > > > My wife has been on 35mg (we just dropped it from 40 mg) for about > > three months. Insomnia is really bad. Guest guest
No but will give it a try. Does it help while on prednisone? Thanks. Guest guest
You know Mona, I have been on Lyrica for about three months now for peripheral neuropthay and a positive side effect of that is that it works like a sleeping pill. I didn't really like taking it (or anything else for that matter) but it did help the pain in my feet slightly. A recent visit with an orthopod ended with my going on Cymbalta and weaning off of the Lyrica. However, once I was off of it I found that I was back to having my insomnia problems. So, I decided to take half the normal dose prior to bed in the evenings and " Viola " I could sleep again. So I told my wife to call her sleep doc and run the idea of switching from the Ambien CR she talkes now (and is not working) to the Lyrica. I figured it is worth a shot. BTW, I believe that the Lyrica is basically the same as trazodone. Rick > > Hi. I get real bad " butt " pains at night, which prevent me from sleeping. Guest guest
Hi Rick, Just an FYI. Lyrica causes weight gain...your wife may not like that . Neurotin( for seizures but is also acts as a calmer for hot flashes) acts like a sleeping pill for me but also puts on weight and so does trazadone. Seems like all the drugs that calm you to sleep also make you gain weight. Guest guest
Thanks Cooky. I did not know that about Lyrica and it's funny my PHP didn't mention that to me when I told him about my weight gain. He said it was the Janumet I take for my diabitis. That I knew. I'll have to keep it mind. Rick > > > > Hi. I get real bad " butt " pains at night, which prevent me from sleeping. > I have been taking trazodone(by prescription) for a couple of years. Guest guest
The trazadone hasn't caused me to gain weight. I have been on it for a few years now. True I have changed to eating a healthier diet and I exercise daily, but I have lost a lot of weight, maybe 15-20 pounds. I'm not really watching my calories either-just eating more fruits, veggies, whole grains , and fiber, and walking 40 minutes daily. Guest guest
Rick- are you sure about the lyrica being the same as trazadone? Guest guest
When I said Lyrica I was thinking of Cymbalta which my doc had " just " switched me to. Sorry. Cymbalta and Trazadone are antidepressants and Lyrica is an antiseizure med that alters your brains responses to pain stimulus'. Rick > > > > Hi.
